would it be better for the heat exchanger tobe made of
stainless-?? aluminum-?? or copper-??
stainless= never rust, retains more heat longer.... is that good-?
aluminum= no rust, maybe oxidation. quick heat transfer, lite
weight...
copper, easy to solder at home, slow heat transfer, no rust,
will it turn green?

NO it's not good. It's slow to adsorb heat and slow to give it up. That's the wrong thing to use for a heat exchanger. I would use aluminum then copper.

Thanks Old Scout.......... I take it this knowledge stems from your
marine background....
Hey, could a guy make any dough buying up old utilities, and
small (under 30 feet) hackers/chris's, etc and bring them back
to Calif from back east and sell them here???
you run into anybody already doing this???
I see some pretty neat stuff on ebay once in awhile.......
I'd give my left nut for an Aquarama Riva twin....
actually, I'm pretty much done with both nuts, they could
have them all!

Nope Brewing and cooking. The customers of mine that have copper brewhouses enjoy a shorter brew day than the stainless steel brewers. It takes a long time to bring 1000 gallons to a boil and the copper is much more efficient at heat exchange than SS. Ever wonder why they put copper on the bottom of pots and pans?
I have a shell and tube one I started and you can have. I got a plate and frame one I am going to use now. It is made with copper.

You have great taste in boats. There is a few guys finding Rivas in europe and bringing them in to the US and making a killing. It's a ton of work bringing a old boat back to life. You would have to be very careful with what you start with. I just put a buddy in a great project boat last night.
I found a 20' Century Arabian with 156 hours and in great shape. It has a 454 hooked to a Velvet drive close coupled V-drive. The boat would bring 8-10K in Tahoe, but with a little dickering we got it for 2K! There is a new interest in classic glass. The old inboards are hard to beat and there made 100 times better than the new crap out there!
Here is what the Arabian looks like.
