: An easy way to form your comments to submit
RealJeepMan 08-21-2007, 11:51 PM I have not seen a straight forward, easy way to write your comments yet. And I wanted to make this as easy as possible for everyone to do. I came up with a step by step outline of what needs to be written, I know its not perfect, but we NEED everyone to write!
So please open this and go for it! We had one of my CC Jeepers club meetings tonight and we wrote 32 letters using this format. So start your own letter writting party with your buddys and GO FOR IT!!
How to submit a DEIS Comment
Step 1: Fill out the top of the DEIS comment sheet. Or out your name, address, and email on the top of a blank piece of paper.
Step 2: Express how you like to use the forest for recreational activities such as; camping, hiking, OHV, fishing, and biking. Use any and/or all of them. Be sure to include that you like to use primitive camping spots and you see many other people using them as well.
Step 3: Let the forest service know that this is a family activity. Tell them how you bring your kids, parents, dogs, cats any thing. Without OHV trails those people could not enjoy the forests beauty.
Step 4: List the routes that you like to use, see the list
Step 5: List the groups and organizations that you belong to, no abbreviations.
Step 6: Sign the letter.
Step 7: Submit the letter one of the following ways:

we are listing our letters sent on this thread.. there arn't many but it sure helped give me ideas on how to word mine I've written 7 by now.. once you get going its easy.. first sit down with the maps and write down the trails you want most...
also be sure to include something like
" I submit these comments to ensure my standing in the NEPA process and ask that you include them in the record and keep me informed on any further planning and decisions regarding Travel Management Planning on the Eldorado National Forest."
That way your on record..
Also if you can find a place to slide it in ask that all the trails or routes on Plan D are kept... we could still loose them so include them in your letters.

I just picked a 6-7 random trails and listed them with "My family has camped off these trails and recreated for 15 years, blah, blah, blah." No need to be specific and no need to pick certian trails they are all important, just bury them with letters!

I have not seen a straight forward, easy way to write your comments yet. And I wanted to make this as easy as possible for everyone to do. I came up with a step by step outline of what needs to be written, I know its not perfect, but we NEED everyone to write!
So please open this and go for it! We had one of my CC Jeepers club meetings tonight and we wrote 32 letters using this format. So start your own letter writting party with your buddys and GO FOR IT!!
How to submit a DEIS Comment
Step 1: Fill out the top of the DEIS comment sheet. Or out your name, address, and email on the top of a blank piece of paper.
Step 2: Express how you like to use the forest for recreational activities such as; camping, hiking, OHV, fishing, and biking. Use any and/or all of them. Be sure to include that you like to use primitive camping spots and you see many other people using them as well.
Step 3: Let the forest service know that this is a family activity. Tell them how you bring your kids, parents, dogs, cats any thing. Without OHV trails those people could not enjoy the forests beauty.
Step 4: List the routes that you like to use, see the list
Step 5: List the groups and organizations that you belong to, no abbreviations.
Step 6: Sign the letter.
Step 7: Submit the letter one of the following ways:

These are his suggestions for writing letters:
Thanks, Amy. I'll take a look at this and use it to shape my own comments on behalf of EcoLogic Partners. I plan to review the EIS for El Dorado over the next week and submit my comment letter by September 4.
In the meantime, good luck at your event this coming Sunday.
1. As I indicated in our phone conversation, please try to avoid form letters if you can. While the number of people commenting is important, especially to the politicians who may be involved, the agencies tend not to care. They don't count votes. Instead, they focus on whether a particular commenter has raised a real issue or identified an actual defect in the EIS.
2. One way to pepper the Forest Service with substantive comments from a lot of different people, is to have each individual letter address a different topic. For example, you could have one letter, signed by maybe five different people, that talks about the impacts on recreating families, another letter dealing with impacts on disabled persons, a third complaining about the EIS's failure to properly account for popular, user-created trails, and a fourth criticizing the scientific evidence used to justify the proposed closures, and so on and so on. This approach prevents the Forest Service from wrapping a big rubber band around all the letters and dumping them into a file drawer.
3. If you can provide me with the names and email addresses of the lawmakers, both state and federal, who constituents are affected by the El Dorado Plan, I will transmit my comments to them as well.
Interesting ideas - maybe we can incorporate some of them for Sunday?

And, just to clarify, this is the side route on the Rubicon that is bypassable if you stay on the trail proper, yes? Sorry, but I've only been all the way through the Rubicon once as photographer, but remember the trail was pretty steep and looked like it would be fun to do.
