View Full Version : Trails being closed?

It is my understanding that the Forest service will be closing trails lower 2 and 7 (slick rock) to try and appease trout unlimited and have the law suite dropped. They are afraid that if the suite goes through all trails will be closed until a court ordered study can be done…and we all know how that goes. The studies are done by the same tree hugging bastards that are suing to begin with. Personally I think that if this works…it will only be for a short time as this will give them the foot hold to launch another attack. :mad3:

If this is incorrect, please let us know with explanation.

The information previously posted is incorrect.

I spoke with Heather Spivey who is working with STLCA on the lawsuit. She is currently at the Forest Service stakeholder meeting in Murphy NC and can not post but she said "nothing of the sort is happening." She will post later with additional info.

Thank you. The information was sent to me last night and I figured someone here would not the facts.

Again, thank you...and I'm glad to here that it was incorrect.

Any updates? I spoke with Farmer's Offroad yesterday and they had not heard!
Thanks

#7 is peckerwood not Slickrock. Sickrock is #9 but regardless I don't want any of these trails closed.

Well I was up At tellico this past weekend and what we heard was that only 4 people showed to support the trails and a bunch of Trout folks showed up..

pretty much from what we were told it was not good for the trails.. and the law suit is going forward..

Well once it hits the courts we can probably expect all the trails to be closed until a court ordered study can be done. Too bad they won't stop all fishing for said study...which they should. And I'm sure the study will be done by a bunch of tree hugging asshats! :mad3:

what the fishermen dont understand is, if it can be taken away from one group(wheelers), it can be taken away from other groups who recreate there(fishermen, mt. bikers and so forth). This is definetly a step in the wrong dirrection for land management.

Where was the meeting and when? I asked before but somebody needs to post when and where in advance. Just like the Work weekend it was like 2 days notice. Work with us and hopefully we will work back. I know everybody will be upset but until we all do something we cannot complain. I donate money to SWFDA and others and try my best to take more out than i took in and also not destroy the trails even in a 1 ton you can wheel hard and not destroy the woods but we all need to work together.

next meeting let us know in advance.

Lets wait to hear what Heather (k9crazy) says who was actually at the stakeholders meeting before we take off running. The last time this forum ran with what someone said the FJCTT was almost strung up by their toes unjustly.

NOT TRUE...in fact it was just the opposite. We were VERY well represented and there were only a few TU folks there.

*EDIT* It was not true that we weren't well represented. However the meeting was not particularly GOOD NEWS for Tellico. That being said, it was also not HORRIBLY BAD NEWS either. Just not IMPOSSIBLE for Tellico.

BUT, I do think (my personal opinion) that the law suite will go forward. And to be honest, I don't think that's a bad thing for us.

See my other thread today...I'll have something up from the meeting soon. Sorry it's taken so long. I am pregnant, tired, grumpy, and my air conditioning at the house is on the fritz! Not a good weekend.

You are right. And we are just getting organized to do just this. We will have a website that everyone can check to see what and when and all that good stuff. But we're not there yet. Organizing a fight like this in the beginning is time consuming and hard. But we're getting there. Hang in...help when you can.

Well that is good news about the representation for OHV..

but also wierd that the folks I talked to that were at the meeting said it did not go well and looks BAD for Tellico..

I guess people see things different.. thanks for your support at Tellico

I think weird is a good way to put it. If you aren't familiar with the process and what is going to happen behind the scenes then I can see it looking different. I don't want to give the impression that what happened looks GOOD for Tellico. It doesn't. It's just that it doesn't look IMPOSSIBLE for Tellico. Does that help with the distinction?
