dirtrod 10-11-2001, 04:33 PM Coil-overs, low CG, big axles, severly chopped body, huge wheelwells with minimal rockers and kinda of a reddish paintjob...
Thats all I can tell from the pic...It looks like it should kick ass
gunracer1 10-11-2001, 04:41 PM it does look to be a good combination. mike
fcfred 10-11-2001, 06:43 PM this page has some images
http://www.twistedcustoms.com/pictures.html
i think that's where it was built and he might work there too
wngrog 10-11-2001, 07:10 PM He owns twisted customs....he is the brains of the designing etc, and they have a money guy to handle the business end of it.
It is a sweet setup and they make smoe clever shit...they did Tracy Jordan's Cruiser and it is a fine peice of work.
willymutt 10-11-2001, 07:36 PM Here's the deal, I live by him and visit his shop daily. I saw the thing from start to finish.
Full tube frame, RC60's f/r with four wheel steering. Full hydraulic steering with an orbital motor for the frontend, and a lever for the rear. Cutting brakes, air bags front and rear on the upper links. It has Sway a Ways on all four corners. The engine is a 350 followed by a turbo 450, followed by an atlas. The hood and grill have been narrowed 7" I think, and the grill has been sectioned 6". The f/r have arbs, there is an onboard welder, the air system is all electric, the steering runs off of a howe pump. It sits only about 6' tall. The wheels are 39.5s. The rims are his custom Hummer wheels. The paint is much the same as the CJ he had built, but a little more orange. If you look at the steering column it has his signiture flames. The floor is plexi, and the sides are aluminum made by myself and a friend. The thing really kicks A$$.
Mike Knorr on this board has wheeled with it. It was unreal what it could do. Jason did do the redesign of the rear end on Tracy Jordans FJ. He also did the awesome hood.
The best part of the whole thing is that Jason has no drawings or sketches. It was all built from ideas in his head.
One other thing that it has is Oneton CV all around.
If you have more questions, let me know.

Wow, I would have never noticed! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
convertiyota 10-12-2001, 04:58 AM That thing is awesome.
Brian E 10-12-2001, 07:36 AM Like Erin said, it is extremely cool what Jason can do. We wheel together often, and he has helped me with a lot of stuff on my rig. I got to ride in the buggy during the Challenge, and it is unlike anything else. You can be falling over onto your side, and it never feels unstable. It is really gonna suck wheelin' with it now. It goes everywhere, just point and shot. If you ever get a chance to talk to Jason, take notes. He is very cool, very helpful, and always thinks of things in a different way. Just tell him your idea, and he will tell if it will work, and what you can do different. Everything he does is artwork. I am having him airbrush my competition rifle stock right now.

Mike Knorr 10-12-2001, 08:18 AM That thing just flat kicks ass. Wheeled with him at DTC when he had just barley finished it. Hell he ran shag carpet for the sides the first time he had it out. But the damn thing just goes anywhere he points it. With the 39's and that low center of gravity he can do some nasty stuff. Jason knows his stuff thats for sure. I would love to have that rig....
RoCkSkuLLz 10-12-2001, 08:46 AM That thing is fawkin bad ass! period!
fcfred 10-12-2001, 03:03 PM yeah it's cool but it was better with the shag!
Mieser 10-12-2001, 03:32 PM Cool, keep the info coming. It seems like this rig might be one to look out for in ARCA?
Any idea on how heavy or light it is?
It seems like a very low center of gravity is paying off for a lot of people. It doesn't seem like that jeep has axles that are over 60-63" wide?

onetoncv 10-12-2001, 05:18 PM oh yeh- One ton c/v's - front and rear- a specailly made 2 peice unit for this rig -
fcfred 10-12-2001, 05:24 PM i just got off the phone with the guy and he was way cool considering that he doesn't know me from adam
just call him and ask him you questions
Brian E 10-12-2001, 07:13 PM Yea, a low center of gravity was one of his goals in building it. When it gets hung up (rarely) he can just fill the airbags up, and it will lift it about 8". The airbags were also built to double as bumpstops when they jump it. Jason grew up racing off-road with his dad. You should see the kick ass old school racecars his dad built in the 60's. They are full of incredible South Dakota farmboy inginuity. (sp?) I think they will be the ones too look out for next year in ARCA. They are also competing in the Warn RCC in Nov. with the buggy. He is going to build them too sell, with different engine and axle options, but don't ask cause I don't know how much!!!! He will soon be starting on one with a Vortec V-8, 44-50-60 axles, no rear steer, and 37" boggers for a guy here in town. It should be just as kick ass. I haven't seen one thing Jason has built that wasn't awesome.

Overkiller 10-13-2001, 02:10 AM I remember him from the ARCA event in Florence. He made the obsticle I was at look like a speed bump. Very impressive driver.
Brian E 10-13-2001, 08:03 AM If I remember right Jason said it was about 3800 lbs. I think 1800lbs. was over the rear, and the rest in the front. It is very well balanced. There is a cool pic of the buggy on the High Angle sight when it still had the shag on it during the Challenge. It is really something watching Jason drive. You guys should see him drive his narrowed Bronco. It has the original untouched 6 cyl. with 80 some horsepower. He has driven it all his life, and has put it into some really stupid places. He was the originator of the narrowed early Bronco about 5 years ago. He also did Pats Bronce of Premier Power Welders. Check out the pics on his sight of the buggy, and Tracy Jordans Cruiser gettin' built. www.twistedcustoms.com. (http://www.twistedcustoms.com.)

Mieser 10-16-2001, 10:47 AM Cool! Thanks for the info!
The stance on the buggy is just perfect! I like the lower stance with the trimmed fenders and hood!
later <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep1.gif" border="0">
willymutt 10-16-2001, 10:54 AM It is really cool the way the hood has the incorporated fenders. He did Tracy Jordan's the same way. all the body panels come off very easily also, making body repair easy. That is one thing that you will notice about that group is that their rigs are all freshly painted before each competition. All the dents are removed and they look very sharp. The CJ that he used in competitions before has had so much body work done it is unreal. They are still using it also, someone else is driving it. He does some top notch work. If you want something done, he can help you do it no matter how big or small.
Twisted Customs kicks A$$.
Erin
I have some pics of it with the shag carpet @ the Challenge. Plenty of rumors around camp about what it did on the trails...wish I could have watched it.....
Mieser 10-23-2001, 10:34 AM I was finally able to get ahold of Jason and talk to him for a bit. He is a really cool guy to talk to and had no problem staying on the phone for over an hour! Anyways, I learned a ton about this new buggy! I have been looking around for something new and different and I just found it. Don't quote me on everything, but here is what I found out...
-It is running axles that are 60" wide, the entire thing is only 78" wide overall with tires.
-The wheelbase is 101" and adjustable from 99" to 103" also.
-The body it 2.5" narrower than a suzuki samurai, the top of the rollcage is only 3 feet wide.
-There is something like 28" of clearance under the middle, PLUS the airbags can lift is another 6-8"
-D60s, high pinion, cut and plated with AR steel, 5.13s, ARBs front and back
-It is narrow enough in the cab that the seats touch each other and the body.
-There is room for storage behind the fuel tank, I think he stores his parts and tools there now.
-The tires and wheels are 160lbs EACH!
-It is 3800lbs with a driver, fuel, parts, and tools, ready to run. If you stripped it and ran different tires you would be under 3500lbs
-The motor is a less than 300hp small block with a TBI injection system.
-All the suspension link interchange.
-Both the front and the rear are almost identical suspensions, the rear pumkin is centered, thats about the only difference.
-It runs a TH475 auto, the supertough motorhome big block tranny with a manual valvebody.
-There is an Atlas 3.8 case, that you almost sit on because it is tucked up so high.
And you can have one that you can jump in and drive anywhere for under 50K. I am going to go sell my house now....see you later <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
There is a few video clips up at...
http://www.larks.net/2001/farmington/movie_set3/movies2.html
middle of the page, 3 clips....
Does anyone have any more pics?

Brian E 10-23-2001, 07:49 PM I just got off the phone with Jason. We are going wheelin' this weekend so we can both practice for the Warn RCC in Nov. I should be able to get some more pics of the buggy then. He has the engine out of the buggy right now beacuse of a lack of oil pressure and power. Is anyone else going to Las Cruces to compete or watch?
