Same thing as Cherokee just a PU, 4cyl is not a powerhouse at all and by now its prolly beat to death, You can swap in a small block what ever or a 4.0 if you want, they are great little trucks. Check out www.comancheclub.com/forums for some good info and great bunch of guys.

they are exactly the same thing as a cherokee like said above. their a unibody under the cab with more bracing than an xj (stronger). behind the cab is a normal solid frame like any other truck and the bed is removable. its the same 4 cyl as in the same year yj or xj. the sweet thing about the mj that the xj doesnt have is the sua rearend like a yj. the xjs are soa from the factory. all you need to lift an mj is soa convert the rear with longer shackles and rustys 6" front coils and some long arms. plus the corresponding steering and driveshaft mods. the longbeds may not need an sye cuz their longer driveshaft. mjs are sick. i wish i had one still. urs with a 4cyl and 33s, chances are like already said as well, it might be pretty beat

Like said before SOA in the back and then buy the front half of the XJ lift. Just remember that they’re the same as the xj from the fire wall forward. Here is mine I have SOA in the rear 6" lift coil in the front. And you should not need a sye because they are longer than the XJ’s if you set up your pinion angle right. Why you have the D35 out kick it to the curb. And get your self a real axle (dana60 for this board but for 33’s is over kill) like a XJ44 or Explore 8.8 96 and newer has the disc brakes and are 31 spline if you go with the 8.8 you need to have spacer because it is about 1" shorter over.

What you are wanting to do is the same thing as mine other than I have the 4.0 and was 2wd.

Here is a pic of mine also do check out comancheclub.com they are a great group of guys and will help you with any and most all question.

stronger unibody.
Full boxed frame after the cab, you can easily take off the bed and go truggy.
drivetrain is the same as an XJ.
SOA in the rear is good for 5-6" of cheap lift.
long beds have shit departure angles, and you'll drag the shit out of the sides and bottom when wheeling trails cut by SWB bastards.
I still love mine, and it climbs well.

:evil:I,ve got a 89 mj with a2.5,I personally am pretty happy with mine. It has a throttle body spacer, cold air intake, flowmaster exaust, inersia ring on flywheel, 5.5 r.e. lift with 2 inch spacers, longer shackles in back, and of course the very unpopuler d30/d35 combo with 4.56 gears lincoln locked in back, detroit gearless locker in front,s.y.e.,bobbed bed,36 inch swampers. Mine is a very capable rig considering
