OK, I have asked on a few other sights and got reasonable answer to this. When I had the cage and seats put in the wifes rhino the shop threw in a CDI box. Well ever since that is doesn't start worth a shit. It takes me forever cranking on it to get it to light, and then it usually lights as I am turning of the ignition. I have heard this is a problem with the digital dash, which I don't have, and a timing problem. I am worried its going to screw up the motor.

Anyway, what is the best solution. I was going to go back to the shop and just get my stock CDI box back. The performance isn't that important. So is there a better CDI box, or would I be better off just getting a stock one?

Thanks

You will definately not be satisfied with going back to the stock CDI! Give the guys at JaggedX a call at 877-524-4339 and they should be able to give you the pros and cons of a few different choices.:grinpimp:

Trust me, being able to start my rhino will FAR outweigh any and all performance advantages this POS CDI box gives.

I dropped a HOT BOX (http://www.polyperformance.com/atvshop/product.php?productid=17429&cat=673&page=1) in our Rhino. The difference was quite noticeable. No starting issues like you are describing either.

The best info that I have been able to find is that the earlier CDI boxes had problems. But noone will confirm this. I have no idea who makes mine. So who on here is a vendor for Rhino parts?

OK so the Black rhino CDI box from JaggedX is $225, and the Hot Shot from Poly is $199. I don't know JaggedX, but I do know Poly and have even talked to the guys up there a few times.

What would make me spend an extra $26 on the Black Rhino box? Not trying to be a d!ck, just looking at the options. :D

Cause its alot funner to drive a Rhino that starts:flipoff2:

The guys at Poly are cool, give Eric at Jagged a call and let him know that Pirate4x4 sent you, maybe he can work you a deal.

I was wondering the diff between the hotshot and the black rhino. I have heard of black rhino, of course found out about them after I had already bought my rhino and spent too much on parts and acc.:shaking::(

As far as I know its the same box from the same manufacture, just 26 bucks less.

Ordered the CDI box, put it in, Rhino fires right up. Can't wait to go out and play with it over thanksgiving.

Thanks Pig, and PolyPerformance.

Be careful not to overrev the engine now. i worked at a dealership for several years and have had to rebuild a handful of these because the new cdi boxs up the rev limiter past the motors limits i actually had one motors lower rod actually pull apart it actually was really cool poor guy, but if it happens its about a $ 2100 rebuild with parts and labor depending on how cool your dealership is with warrenty.

I have a cousin who has a lot of connections a dealership here in socal. If we blow it I would first try and get it warrantied. If not I would be looking to get a hot motor built, if I am going to spend the money I am going to have it done right.

So to ask, as a safety measure what would be an RPM liimit, and does anyone make a tach that will work on a Rhino, prefereably with a shift light to warn of an RPM max. This is the wifes rhino so I want to make sure she can throttle on this thing and not destroy it, at least not right away.:D

Even though you got your problem solved you should get the stock box back. It is always good to have as a spare and to install it when you take your rhino in to the dealer (if it's still under warranty). I carry my stock box and 3 fuel filters in the glovebox all the time.

I would love to get the stocker back, but the company that did the work for me is gone. :mad3: I asked Pig if they had some and they didn't. I may have to buy one off of eBay.:shaking:
