well,,,,i finally received my steering arm from bob roggy today. i guess it is ok. i dropped it off at the machine shop to get my knuckle drilled and tapped. i got under my Z71 and started looking today and i think i might of came up with a different way to do my crossover steering. it would save me from having to buy a new pitman arm heres the pics i scratched out. i am not a artist as you can tell,,,,but what do yall think about this type of steering set up? <IMG width=434 height=207 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/my idea 1.jpg"> <IMG width=414 height=260 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/my idea 2.jpg">
what this would mean is that insted of having the dragling going from the pitman arm to the steering arm,, the draglink would go from the stock centerlink bar to the steering arm,,,,,,any pros or cons?(besides my terrible drawings)

I assume you are putting in a solid axle and the pic on the left will cause the toe in and out to change evry time you hit a bump cause the angles will change. the second one not sure but kinda seems pointless to not run off the pitman arm just more joints to break.

I'm not sure what the actual geometery of your rig is, but I wouldn't screw around much with the steering just to save the cost of a pitman arm... they are cheap in the big picture...

It's called a Z link setup, I have seen it before.

I'm with Ranger...that looks like the IFS set-up, but if you go solid axle just you std blazer draglink and then use your pitman arm with a connecting rod to the one knuckle....

I got your e-mail but I figured that I would reply here. Lars is the name of the guy who has the Pitman arms. His number is 916/207-5001.

As for the the steering system that you thought up, it is more points to wear out.

Go to www.off-road.com/chevy (http://www.off-road.com/chevy) and look at project rockready. That's Depdogs rig. There is some info and pictures of his corssover steering. Converted from the old style drag link to a crossover style. Not sure what it will take on a newer box like yours. On the older trucks we use a 2wd box with a drop pitman off a Jeep wagonneer as well as a Jeep steering arm on the passenger side Knuckle if using a D44 axle. Or if a 10 bolt we put D44 flat top knuckes on it. Have to do some machining to get the knuckle to accept the arm. On the older body trucks we do have to make a new frame crossmember. You may not since you had a Diff hanging there it may have the clearence.
