I'm building a f250 4wd 1978 ford for pre runnung dessert courses
and i've noticed a lot of people going wider than stock, how??
do i cut the axle tubes and add an extension piece then but weld
them and where do i get longer axle shafts??
Wider than fullwidth?????

I would pull the whole tube out of the housing and use a longer one piece tube.
Moser can build you whatever length and spline count axle shaft you want. www.moserengineering.com
They use 1" backspacing on 10" rims

If your 78 F250 is one of the ones with the front D60 there are probably many guys on this board that will widen a 44 and swap for the 60. I would think a trussed HP44 would work quite well on a pre-runner.
