: Automatic transmissions?

I want to attempt to rebuild a TH400 slushomatic transmission for the Willys ... Trouble is, I don't know squat about autos.

I've found a bunch of rebuild kits for anywhere from $100 to $200 ... Are they worth it?

Also, I've been looking for Auto Trans technical books but it would seem that the publishers all want to sell video tapes ... kind of impractical for the garage. Suggestions?

Pro? ... Con? ... Better ideas?

OK, I found a TH400 manual from ATSG for $20 ... Anyone got any input about rebuild kits? Best type, brand, etc.?

I've always used Redline clutch packs in my TH350. I've never actually rebuilt one myself, but I did make sure I got Redline clutches...I would ask around at a couple of local tranny shops and performance shops...And no AAmco and Pepboys are not good places to get info
