I CHECKED ALL THE POST AND CAN'T FIND THE ANSWER.
HOW DO YOU TELL IF YOU HAVE STOCK AXLES IN THE FRONT/REAR?.
I HAVE A 70FJ40 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE AXLES WERE FROM A FJ55 . IS THERE ANY MARKINGS OR DIFFERENT CASTING OR ARE THE PUNKINS DIFFERENT?. HELP ME PLEASE.

I maybe wrong but I thought they were the same on 55's and 40's

First off check for discs. There is very little reason to have switched form drum to drum. A disc brake setup in the front will indicate that somehting has changed. As for telling FJ55 versus FJ40 the only real difference would be:
Front: the bumpstops welded on the axle on an FJ55 housing(right between the u-bolts) are taller by about an inch.
Rear: same thing for the bumpstops, and there will be (if not previously removed) two forward facing tabs on either side of the axle housing for the stabilizer linkage. Not found on FJ40s, on FJ55 and FJ45's...

You have 4 wheel drum brakes, so it really does'nt matter what they came out of. 40/45/55, it really does'nt matter other than the little stabalizer tabs that would be on the 55 axles. All parts internally are fully interchangable. By the way, turn your CAPS off, you are YELLING at everyone!!!

If he has a rear FF from an overseas 45, it changes MUCH. :D
And if he has the later 1-slave-cylinder self-adj. drum brakes rear, it matters, too...

Other than that...
-birfield size..?. (right here he had no discs till 1981 or so :( )
- gear ratio 3.7/4.11 should be easy to tell ;)

But that bring nothing useful to the question...

I mean why do you need to know where your axles are from ?
