I've got an 86 bronco full size and i'm having problems removing the drivers side hub. I have removed the outer knob and all that and the inner part of the hub, but i cannot get the outer portion of the hub or that inner gear on the axle shaft to come out. It feels like it is hanging up on the gear on the axle shaft itself. I have removed the snap ring so i know thats not the problem, and there doesn't seem to be any type of inner snap ring anywhere that i can see. Any ideas?

Thanks,
RB

It's just a little sticky. Screw a few of the hub bolts back in, and pull on those. Might even have to put some vise grips on them and gently tap it out.

I tried that trick with the screws but i wasn't sure i wasn't missing something so i didn't pull too hard. I did try the pliers on that gear over the shaft piece and couldn't get ahold of it enough to pull it off. I guess i'll try a tighter grip and more force.

Thanks

There are two snap rings. One external on the end of the axle shaft, one internal in the wheel hub. If you do not know the internal one is there it can be hard to find. It rest's in a grove on the inside of the hub, about 1/8~1/4 inch in from the outside edge. Use a pick or small flat blade screwdriver to get it out.
