: Trailer brake wiring

Can anyone tell me if the two wires coming from my trailer brakes are +12v and -12v or if the brakes are grounded thru the chassis and the second is for the emergency brake? One wire goes to the brake controller output but the other connects thru the breakaway switch to the little battery and then to the aux on the truck harness which according to Dodge is for backup lamps.

Can anyone help me solve this puzzle?

Thanks.

One wire goes to trailer ground and the other goes to the controller. Doesn't matter which way the wires are hooked up.

Cool... Thanks.

Right after I posted this I realized that the backup lamp pin on the truck connector goes to ground when not in reverse. I hooked the extra wire to this position and I now have trailer brakes except when in reverse. That's probably the way it's meant to be but for some reason I didn't figure that out right away.

Thanks again.

No.

One wire gets hooked to the brake output from the controller. The other wire goes to ground. Does not matter which wire goes where.
