I have a 14 bolt full floater and Detroit locker and have about a 1/4 turn of slack in the pinion. When I shift gears I get a bit of backlash and a clunk, the gears and locker are new is this normal? The backlash was set according to specs. What might be causing this, I have noticed this since the first day I put them into service...
Thanks
Yup it's normal.Watch out to if you coast through a couple of corners then come to a stop without applying power. On a rare occasion it seems they ramp up on each side so when you go to leave it engages pretty hard.I was light on the throttle luckily when it's happened to me.I would hate to see what would happen under full throttle.

Thats normal with a Detroit, its unavoidable with the design. Thats why more and more people are going to spools

it is internal lash on the locker, ring and pinion is slight if you check, then before it gets to the tires is at least a 1/4 turn same as mine, only the soft lockers don't have that
