I have a 36x12.50 TSL (Trail spare, not worth taking into the tire store) I'd like to plug a small leak in. It takes about a week to leak down to nothing from 25 PSI. I wouldn't bother to fix it except I don't have OBA yet, so I need to do something...
The leak is in the dead center of the tread, no where near a sidewall. I've had a tire plugging kit in my toolbox for a while, and I guess this is as good a time as any to learn. If it doesn't work, I can always take it into the tire store and have it patched anyway...
So, any tips to making them work better from the tire gurus?

If you have a kit, use it. Some require glue, others dont, just follow the direction and jam a plug in. And yes, if it doesnt work, it can still be booted.

I'd just plug it for a spare. Hell it'll prolly rarely get used anyway. If that don't work have it patched.
If I can find one locally, I'll give it to ya if you come to get those BFG's. Might have more tread and you could pitch the other one.

so are you askin how to do it?
First find the hole, then you should have a file type t-handle tool. ream the hole out with that thing a couple of times and leave it in.. the grab the other t-handle tool. Thread a plug 1/2way thru the eye. fold the two ends up into each other so they stick together. Take a dab of rubber cement and coat the plug with it. Remove the file tool, and proceed to jam the plug into the hole.. leave the ends sticking out of the tire. then just twist the "needle" while pulling out and the plug should stay in the tire. Add as many plugs as necessary to stop the leak. then take a razor blade or other sharp object and trim the ends down flush with the tire.
I've personally had seen 17 plugs in a single hole before it selaed. Granted it was about a 1" slice but it held.

I kinda had a rough idea about the procedure, Sceep, but I was wondering if anyone had any special technique for getting them to seal a little better. I guess it's just too simple...
yup
simple even I can do it
I usually melt the ends down after trimming
always carry a plug kit in the glovebox
I have been using those plugs for as long as I remember and before they sold em in the stores....used to only get em from a tire shop...they are a likesaver when you need em.....one of my standard items I am never without.....
