Hey guys. Might be a silly question. I keep pushing through the stupid little plastic shifter cups that sit in the control box for the manual tranny. (Sidekick) The ball on the end of the stick sits in the little cup, and somehow I keep pushing through them, making the cup ride up on the shifter - which makes my pattern really loose and spongy. Not a big deal, just really annoying.
Maybe I lost something that keeps the shifter from doing that, like a spacer or something? Anyone got a picture of their shifter parts? Or is this just common and I need to come up with a way to get/create an über-tough cup?
Just curious.

I don't think it is "common" for it to do that.
I guess you could make a new cup out of polyurethane or aluminum.

After market (teflon?) shifter sheet which is what they call the plastic cup. if it gets too bad the truck will stop shifting! Personal experience! Replace and problem goes away.

On a Sidekick? Know of an aftermarket "shifter sheet" for it?

Aren't you asking about the little cup down in the top of the shifter housing....the one that the "ball" on the very end of the shifter fits into? If so, they do not make an aftermarket replacement for it, that I know of.

Yup, that's what I'm talking about. I've pushed through three.
I've taken apart other shifters, and as of right now I have a shifter and cup that I took out of a vehicle from a junkyard, and I just pushed through that cup last weekend. I don't remember any differences between my setup, and the other truck - I didn't see a spacer or shim or anything that I remember.
Maybe it's just me. Or maybe my control box has a flaw? I think maybe next time I'll grab the other truck's control box, too.

Ok, I thought that was the piece you were talking about. It sounds like Dak thought you were talking about the shift sheet at the big pivot "ball" on up the shifter.
Nope, no spacer or shim on the end of the shifter or cup. Sounds like you might need to make one out of aluminum....should still be somewhat smooth shifting and shouldn't wear out or push through.
The control box is pretty basic....it either works or it doesn't....I can't think of anything that could be wrong with it, that would cause the shifter to push through the cup on the end.
Is the shifter sheet in good shape and installed correctly? I guess if it allowed the shifter to go down too far into the control box, then it would have a tendency to push through the cup.
