The dollars go directly to the Rubicon Trail Foundation (all of them, no seed money taken by TDO, no administrative fees, etc.)
The stated goals of the RTF are:
1. Buying property on/near the Rubicon Trail
2. Funding education and outreach projects
3. Funding special trail projects, maintenance and improvements as apprpriate
4. Supporting the Friends of the Rubicon in their work efforts
5. Being the world-recognized authority for Rubicon Trail information, education and outreach.

Radbassist- your's was a very good question so I'll give you a little background on the Cantina and how it started.....
Our club had always been very involved with FOTR but it was becoming very clear that simply working to maintain the trail wasn't going to be enough. We needed $$$ to fight to keep the trail open so we came up with this hair-brained idea to sell Taco's to raise a little cash. The RTF was already established and was the obvious organization to benefit from the fund raiser. We'll, the response from the OHV community was huge and our Cantina was a success raising $5,000.00. We were encouraged by our friends to continue with the Cantina and our second annual raised $8,500.00. This year's total of over $22,000.00 shocked everyone involved! The outpouring of support from Vendors, Clubs and trail users was amazing! This years donation to the Rubicon Trail Foundation will be ear-marked for property purchase on or near the Rubicon Trail.
Like resqme said, our club pays for all the supplies out of our pockets and we don't hold any seed money back. 100% of the money donated goes directly to the RTF!
Thanks to everyone that helped us blow the doors off our goal this year!
Are you ready for Cantina 2008? ;)
This years donation to the Rubicon Trail Foundation will be ear-marked for property purchase on or near the Rubicon Trail.
OK, I'll bite...
What was the 2 previous years 13,500 bux used for?
(my first guess deleted)

Hasn't all been used...it has been used for trail maintence, food for work parties, etc

With property values what they are, it has always been realistic that a purchase would be a ways away until enough money is raised. Finding a seller is the other half of that. That said, our goals are, in a more working order:
1. Supporting the Friends of the Rubicon in their work efforts. (more cookouts!)
2. Funding special trail projects, maintenance and improvements as appropriate. (could we really buy a bathroom?)
3. Funding education (Trail Patrol) and outreach projects.
4. Buying property on/near the Rubicon Trail.
5. Being the world-recognized authority for Rubicon Trail information, education and outreach. (Being a world renowned Trail and all)
While this is not necessarily a priority list it is how things are working. We found out right away that supporting FOTR work parties was successful in getting more volunteers to show up. That we will continue to do without fail. I figure if we concentrate on the first four the fifth will follow.
Education is one thing we are committed to but need more help, experience and practice with. Funding things like trail patrol go a long way towards Education. Outreach projects are something I'd like to see happen as soon as possible. Del has been saying as long as i can remember that the efforts on the Rubicon will set the standard on how to take ownership and responsibility for a single trail. I think we have set the bar very high and can find a way to jump that sucker.

Mark you forgot to add that the first year our goal was $2,500, last year it was $7,000 and this year $10,000. After we hit $5,000 in online sales and had the donnor who's matching $5k we were hoping to hit $15k. I'm not sure any of us could imagine when we started this we would raise this much in one weekend.
We can not say thank you enough to everyone who help in any way, even if it was buying 1 raffle tickets or writing a letter all of it helps our cause which, is to keep the Rubicon open.
Danger Ranger 09-07-2007, 07:12 PM Bottom line... RTF needs money!!! Our side needs MONEY! give it to RTF/BRC/CA4WDC/CORVA... somebody!
TDO had this hair brain idea which raised what we thought was a big $ amount with the first cantina. Little did we know it would double RTF's bank account!
I'm young (the youngest member of RTF) and have a lot to learn, but I got involved with RTF to represent my club and wheelers like myself. RTF has a pretty diverse membership, which is a good thing IMO. Everyone may not always agree, but different view points will be represented. Read, compromise.
EVERYONE who contributed to Cantina last weekend. You have done a good thing, FOR THE RUBICON!!! Your money WILL be used for the future of the rubicon trail in someway. Thank you :D
