Start by making it breath - exhaust and intake
Then chip/computer it

There are five million thing that you can do to it but those are the 3 "first things to do" things.

Follow that up with propane injection and .... and ........ and.......

Like I stated before in the 3 things to do first. After that, you are basically adding power or devises to get power faster. If you use that power, then you are not getting better fuel mileage.

Are we talking Powerstroke or IDI?

DP Tuner (http://www.dp-tuner.com/73tuning.htm)

The best tuning and programs for a 7.3.

Propane would never be my choice for more power.

Quit wasting your time looking for better MPG. If you chip it (I have a DP Tuner F5), you're just going to drive it faster and get the same MPG as before. (which isn't a bad thing)

I was heading up a hill the other day when my truck shuttered and felt like it lost all power. I was pressing the gas and it wasn't hardly climbing (accelerating) at all. I was ready to pull into Checkers and grab a new fuel filter since I had just ran a few tanks of B100. Turns out my problem was my F5 came unplugged on the back and that serious lack of power was "stock". :flipoff2:

If you have the will power to get the 80-economy setting from Jody at DP, and keep off the accelerator, then more power to you... you'll be the first one I met. Don't forget about maybe beefing up the valve body in the 4r100, getting some gauges, probable turbo surge and all the other junk that comes along with adding HP!

Another cheap option is getting rid of the stock muffler. I know the one on mine was a major restrictor.

I'm not sure if its too late or not...but you may want to rethink your K&N air filter idea. I hear nothing but bad about them.

Do they make a BHAF for 7.3s? I'd go that route if they do.

If your around lots of dust, go to Ford and get the AIS filter setup, and then add the Fender mod.. you'll get plenty of clean air.

If it's a six speed, it's already at 275HP, and be sure to ask about a return policy - on the 6 spd/275HP engine, it's very, very easy to throw a SES light. Also, DO NOT DO the 10k mod or an edge Juice type module on a six speed/275HP engine - it's SES light will come on and stay on.

the other cheap thing to do is to switch out the muffler for the camper muffler (3.5", straight through). it's under 100 bucks, and it's almost as good as a full exhaust.

I run the AIS filter, 4" MBRP and DP Tuner 80HP Econo chip and probably get a little over 18 MPG empty. I recently pulled just under 14 MPG overall when towing about 7K lbs for about 1000 miles.

Yep, add a 10.5' cabover camper, about 7-8k of rig and trailer behind the truck, 150hp chip, exhaust, intake, tweak the trans, an aftermarket turbo and drive like a prick :flipoff2: I got all of 8mpg last weekend from placerville to the con and back to placerville. Flat land, I avg about 10-11mpg
