On the '78-'90 Motorcraft distributors on the 258, does the distributor have to be removed to change the centrifugal advance springs?

My FSM hasn't arrived yet and the Haynes & Chiltons books are blissfully vague concerning the distributor ... I need to know what I'm up against before digging in.
