Hey, I just changed my oil pan gasket and it leaks like in 4 different places. I didn't think there was much to it, but it seems like there is. How tight should it be? Should I use RTV? Any other suggestions? I used a Kragen gasket and I'm thinking that maybe that was my mistake.

How tight did you torque the bolts? It dosen't take much to split the cork gasket I'm not sure the actual torque I've always did it by feel but thats the biggest mistake most people make is too much.
To you second question no your not suposed to use RTV on cork just on the seams where two gaskets meet the cork needs to be installed dry then it will soak up the oil in the pan and expand keeping a tight seal like the cork in a wine bottle, thats why you store wine on its side, to keep the cork wet.

There is a real Toyota gasket that actually fits the oil pan instead of the cork one which will always leak.

I have a 350 and I used the cork one. I put it on using all the above tips and it looks good so far. Thanks for the help :)

I bought a sa-weet Fel-pro gasket set for my 305 that is a blue rubber type, and THICK.. one piece, and they give you all new bolts as well as 4 clips to hold the pan in place while you thread the bolts in.. was like $27, but I used NO RTV at all, and it didn't leak a drop. Same deal with the valve covers.

Where did you get it your fel-pro from?
