Tool Chest, Top Chest, 9 Drawer, Width 41 Inches, Depth 18 Inches, Height 23 Inches, Drawer Capacity 100 Pounds, With Ball Bearing Slides

my dads 25 year old snap-on rollaway is about dead. the drawers are WAY overloaded, and filled to the brim. Its a 27" wide, non ball bearing slide, antique that is dying fast.

I need to get him a new/larger box that is going to last awhile. I've looked at (and own) a costco stainless roller, and i just don't think its up to the abuse that we dish out in the shop.

I have a budget of $1k. :( i can pick this pair up new for $1039, which is roughly $350 cheaper than i can find them online

anyone know anything about em?? have any other/better recommendations in my budget?

Don't know anything about the Proto models...But I've had good luck with my Craftsman models.

I just picked up an 41", 11 drawer (ball bearing) bottom from Home Depot for $399. It's 'okay', but I'm not gonna drag it around a 1,000,000 sq ft plant fixing stuff. It sits where it sits. I purchased a Craftsman 26" x 16", 5 drawer (ball bearing) top chest for the top, because where it sits, I need to have room to open the electrical breaker box.

You want the ultimate in tool boxes or tool storage? You've got to go with MATCO, Snap-On, or Lista. But be prepared to spend what you'd spend for a (cheap) new car. I can't 'justify' $15,000 for a tool box, when all I'm interested in is tool storage and organization.

BUy the stainless one at Costco. I have a high end craftsman and wanted a new one and did some research. All these boxes are made by the same two or three companies and badged for whoever is selling them. The costco stainless one is 7 or 8 hundred bucks, is the same size and has the same features. Haviing done that, the Sears near me ALWAYS has at least one of that set that has a dinged in corner at the top of the bottom section that in no way affects the performance and is generally 3 or 4 hundred bucks off.

edit: Sorry, I didn't fully read.I would keep your eye out for the crapsman dinged models.

The Torin tool boxes from Northern Tool are actually pretty nice. I've got a Cornwell 42" top chest and have been looking for a bottom, definitely going to pick one up. The top and bottom set would run you about $800 plus tax if you pick it up otherwise shipping kills the deal. I think the closest Northern is Texas for you.
