: clean-up of the tree across fordyce trail!
FULLSIZE 06-15-2002, 01:55 AM i have seen the tree across the trail and it is big. i say we go in with saws and cut the big motha out. chop it into manageable size pieces and remove it from the trail. how about the 22nd? i dont have a saw but i have a jeep that can haul some wood, or move it out of the way. WORK party indeed, but well worth it. who's in?
Belly Dragger 06-15-2002, 06:14 AM Where's it at? I have a chain saw, well at least one of those little home chainsaw's. I have no use for the wood but I can help.
I'm game. (not gamey)
JIM3030 06-15-2002, 07:09 AM I'm hoping to be together by then? I have a 3700 poland with about 24" bar. could use somthing bigger for this job. Any one?How about it CJDEAN any one in your club capable wedges, hammers, and the like. And there is the water??????? but yes we need to do something I'm in. I'm sure the t-case will be done by them.
Aggro 06-15-2002, 09:16 AM Good luck getting to it... yesterday the water was flowing at 593cfm at crossing number 1. The cayakers are GETTING IT.
FULLSIZE 06-15-2002, 10:02 AM can they slow the rate for us to get in there to do the work? who would i call? just thinking it would be in everyones interest to get it cleared out before any permanent damage is caused.
WytNkls 06-15-2002, 02:27 PM we'll be up there anyways, so we'll definitely help. I try to get a biiiiggggg saw and some wedges:) . Damn last night was fuuunnnn. Did we "get it"? I tried to "get it" , I think we "got it":flipoff2:
matt-
FULLSIZE 06-16-2002, 02:06 AM ya, you got it alright!:flipoff2: um, next time try it without the helium in your tires.:p
WytNkls 06-16-2002, 08:00 PM My buddy erik will be with me. He has a saw but only a 24" bar. We can work at it though. I've got a winch and snatch block. huh huh, I said snatch:flipoff2:
Matt-
FULLSIZE 06-16-2002, 08:51 PM :clown:
rochog 06-16-2002, 10:24 PM If no one has a prob with kids 3 and 6 I will be there with 18" saw,axe and some wedges.:rasta:
66CJdean 06-16-2002, 10:31 PM Well let me know about the 22nd. I was up on the Rubicon this past weekend and didn't brake that much so I am game unless the water is flowing like it is. Describe where this tree is???

All right Matt, details please? Don't be suprised to see pics of "our next victim" when I find here pretty soon. There was a nice camping trailer down the street from my parents house for a while.
The Jerk 06-16-2002, 11:48 PM if i fix my winch this week i am game to help unload some horse power to pull the thing, ive never been to fordyce before but plan on going that weekend. if anything i can help move stumps into people rigs. jiMMy
Kendo 06-17-2002, 08:40 AM I'm down for a day run to clear that big mutha out. Like everyone else has said though, how high is the water, where's the tree, etc?
I thought I saw someone post (maybe you Brian) that it was right after the first crossing.
593 is no joke, but the first crossing should only be a depth issue. Get some tall rigs in there and they should be able to make it across.
Keith Strong 06-17-2002, 08:55 AM I'm in Brian.....Dad and I were gonna hit Fordyce anyway this weekend. Call me and let me know.
RP Films 06-17-2002, 10:20 AM There are a couple of trees blocking the trail. We went in Cisco on Sat. And there is a Giant tree in the way right after the second river crossing. Just after the camp spot. The other one is abput a 1/4 mile past the first river crossing.
The flow rate isnt near 593!! No way....The weekend after Memorial was MUCH faster (but I didnt go to Cisco on that weekend). The crossing at Cisco was moving the rigs a little bit but keep in mind that it is the deepest crossing. Otherwise the trail is looking sick and in good shape. Going to go try and go from Meadow to Cisco today or tommorrow.
Keep the trail CLEAN!!!!!!
Pat
FULLSIZE 06-17-2002, 06:41 PM i've never removed tree's for a living or anything but the thing is huge. has anyone seen it with experience in tree removal? my friend who was with me said "your gonna have a bunch of pissed off wheeler's up there with chainsaws when they see the size of that thing". just want to know if its a "permanent" obstacle. its about 2 or 3 feet off the ground across 2 banks and about 3 or 4 feet(just taking a guess) around. who has a # to call about the flow rate? i'll try a search. in no way am i any trail leader but i know people are goin around it making the "bypass" more and more permanent. just want to see if we can round up the muscle for it.
Keith Strong 06-18-2002, 07:47 AM Any chance of cutting a couple of sections and using those to block the bypass? Cmon Brian.....LEAD US :flipoff2: I will be there for winching and assistance, but I dont have a RUNNING chainsaw right now
Travis Waldher 06-18-2002, 07:58 AM 3-4 feet around isn't too bad. Yes.. some work.
For reference in weight. We cut a half water logged 3' DIAMETER tree about 80' long down to 50' so we could use two winches to drag it into a bypass.
Kendo 06-18-2002, 08:13 AM I just got done doing this at my house. Big arse tree fell in the back blocking access to one of my many parking areas. It was about 30" in diameter. I cut it into 8 foot sections and was able to drag them around with the Jeep fairly easily. If we have access to it, we can cut it up, period. Might take some time, but it's doable.
I have a 20" bar Husky that's up to the task. :D
SHERPA 06-18-2002, 09:26 AM McCulluch 1000....... sounds like a YZ250.
pulls a 48" Oregon bar, with a reeeeeally sharp chizel
chain. burrrrraaaaaaappppp!
but I'm no where near Cisco grove.
--Sherpa
whoever cuts into that tree better know what they're doing,
or else they'll end up getting the bar pinched, and either
have to leave their saw stuck into the tree, or take the
bar off, and leave it and the chain.....

FULLSIZE 06-18-2002, 07:09 PM WARNING + Expect 200 cfs until Fri Jun 21, then who knows?thats what i'm worried about, the who knows part. i'm ready and willing to try. who's in for sure? i have no chain saw but i have enough experience to get the saw pinched like a mutha fawker :p
lets get it!
66CJdean 06-18-2002, 07:26 PM I have a saw that has a 24-28" bar but I never use it so I don't know if it runs anymore. If we can plan on Sunday I could check the saw and would be able to get started earlyer in the day than I could if we do it Saturday.
FULLSIZE 06-18-2002, 07:34 PM let me know what day works for everyone who plans on going. what time can you get started saturday dean? i dont mind starting off a little later or playin around til you get there. anyone else got a saw also?:D

slorunner 06-18-2002, 10:11 PM Just got back from there yesterday (Mon. 17th) The first and second water crossings were deep but are doable. The "bail out point" water crossing to get back to Fordyce lake campgrounds and out cisco grove, was DEEEEEEP!!! We sat there for an hour debating weather or not we were going to cross. Water came up and splashed on top of my hood.  (see sig for truck specs to get an idea how deep):usa:
FULLSIZE 06-18-2002, 10:17 PM thanks for the info. i'll be at the trail head between 8-9am saturday. how does that monty python song go....." i'm a lumberjack and i'm ok.........."
Kendo 06-19-2002, 08:02 AM I am planning on doing it at this point. Wife is in Tahoe for a wedding on Sat ( :D ), and if I can get some things done during the evening this week, I'm all over it.
I have a 20" Husky and a brand new chain. I also have an axe, splitting maul and sledge if it gets stupid.
Keith Strong 06-19-2002, 12:39 PM Brian and Ken.....you guys wanna meet up at about 8 or so?
FULLSIZE 06-19-2002, 12:42 PM meet where?
66CJdean 06-19-2002, 12:53 PM Eagle Lakes exit. Take the dirt road on the Left just past Indian Springs camp ground. There is a staging area that is the start of the trail.
Keith Strong 06-19-2002, 01:12 PM I was thinking more like in GV for you and I Brian....maybe Riebes or Kevins shop at like 8 or 8:15? Hook up with Ken and others at trail head?

Dean needs to practice his left hand/ right hand skills. :flipoff2:
The dirt road is on the right side of the frontage road.
Take eagle lakes exit, go back under the freeway and head westbound along the frontage road on the north side of the freeway.
The dirt road is on the right. If you come to a bridge and cross the river again you have gone too far.
Staging area is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile in on the dirt road and there are pit toilets for anyone that needs to take a morning dump.
50/50 if I can make it or not. I have a 16" chainsaw and a pry bar.
Dean are you going?

Dan-H 06-19-2002, 05:01 PM Ok, I see what you are talking about now.
If you are at the brick shithouse, the trail begins just past there and to the the left.
