Action Item: Write/call your representatives today and urge them to support H.R. 2114
H.R. 2114, the National Monument Fairness Act, which amends the Antiquities Act of 1906 to require the President of the United States to solicit public comment and consult with the governor and the congressional delegation of impacted states at least 60 days before the creation of any national monument.
This bill gives the public, governors, local leaders and Congress a voice in the creation of future national monuments. It prevents forever the abuses we endured under Bill Clinton.

President Clinton first used the 1906 Antiquities Act to designate the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah in 1996. That monument, encompassing 1.7 million acres, was declared without prior notice to Utah’s governor, congressional delegation or residents local to the area. The press who were invited to the proclamation ceremonies knew about the forthcoming announcement before Utah’s elected officials....
