Has anyone ever modified their stock TJ Pump, other than just screwing in the nut on the piston?

I'd like to increase the GPM, If i drill out the fitting and swap some of my 90 degree angles off the pump and gear for a 45's will this increase the GPM... the dealer tells me the stock 4.0 pump runs 1500psi and 2.4-2.7 GPM. I like the 1500psi, but want to get 3-4 GPM

Is this thing even worth the time in modifying, or am I just going to blow this pump up!

I did a search all i could find is people modifying the sags

Is this a joke? (:rainbow: boy) You searched and all you found was how to modify a saginaw pump? And you need help with your TJ box? Uh, yeah. Try the search again and maybe you will find your answer, it's really not that hard.:nuke: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :nuke:

The time it took you to type all of this you honesty could have done a search and found out the answer or get an idea if you should/shouldn't, can/can't.

(BTW -- TheLakeRat has a pretty good idea what is going on with these set ups ;) )

You can modify the TJ pumps to get more flow but they have a tendancy to whine even more than the Saginaw pumps do. Pull out the main fitting where your high pressure line goes in and then drill out the hole that goes through that fitting about 2 sizes larger than it is. also on the inner end you will notice there is a small hole on one side about 3/16 of an inch from the end. using a diegrinder or cutoff wheel make that hole extend all the way to the end of the fitting. That should give you a noticable difference in flow.
But, DO NOT!!!!! bump the pressure up in the TJ pump any more than just removing all shims or making sure it is tight. The TJ pump puts out alot more pressure than the Saginaw pump does and you WILL blow the seals in your box.
If you have any more questions e-mail ma and i'll be glad to help

Have to tip my hat on this one.

Can You Imagine This?

Someone asks a question, and solicits some technical advice.

Then....

Someone else actually answers the question with good, honest, non-smart a$$ed technical advice!

Imagine that!

Well Done Matt.

Thanks LakeRat,

I drilled out the fitting yesterday, made a hell of a difference!

You're right though, the thing whines more than my wife when I come home with something new for the jeep;)
