: Tow Rig Tires

I'm looking for some advice from the know. I'm starting to look into replaceing the tires on my tow rig. It's a '99 Dodge 3500 diesel. I don't really care about tread. I'm looking for something that lasts and is rated high enough for gooseneck trailers. I started thinking the other day that the tractor trucks run tires that go many, many more miles than our pickup truck tires could ever dream of doing. There has got to be an equivalent for the commercial tires in the small truck world. What are you custom haulers running?

Not in the haul business, and there are TONS of different tires out there, but I've had good luck with Michelin LTX M/S tires on our work vans and trucks. I've found them to be a quality tire that I have very few issues with and get decent life.

For our flat-bed dually I just put on Goodyear 'Silent Armor' something-or-others and so far have been happy. Tire shop recommend them so I gave it a whirl. Course duallys wear very well in the rear, the old school Goodyear ATs that were on there still had great tread, 70K miles, 15 years and two of them were still the original tires, but the sun got to them and the outers started to crack and another picked up a nail so they all got replaced.

I run BFG Commercial T/A All Season. They have a 50k warranty and don't break the bank on the purchase price. I just put a new set on a couple months ago. They are pretty low on the noise level, run smooth, and I picked up 2 mpg. Not sure your rim size, cause they only do these in 16's. I run the 245/75's, but I also have a 2wd. If you have 16" rims, I would highly suggest these. They also offer the Commercial T/A Traction if you have a 4wd.

I am happy with my Big-O A/T in 215/85/16 E Rated on my 3500 CTD. There are a few tread patterns depending on when they were made, but the ones I have were supposedly made for Big-O by Goodyear.

IIRC, they were $130 each and all Big-O tires have a 3 year road hazard warranty that included full replacement if they can not be plugged.

I run pro comp extreme AT's in the 35" flavor, load range D and I am happy with them, but I only tow a flatbed trailer on occasion. They do make smaller sizes in load range D, and I am impressed thus far with the mileage. I have about 10k miles on them, and they still look brand new. My stock michelins lasted a whopping 17k miles before they were bald. I'll never buy michelin by choice.

We have Michelin LTX M/S on our two F350's and my FIL just put on a set of Transforce HT's (Dodge 3500).

I just put a set of firestone Destination A/Ts from tire-rack on my truck. They were cheap, run true and quite. Don't have many miles on them but the are way better than the generals the truck came with. At least so far.

I'd go with these. Been there for 52K miles and about to replace them.

I've got LTX M/S on my PSD, so far so good.

I went through a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires on my CTD. Good tires, but started to get a little squirrelly on slick surfaces towards the end of their 50k+ mile life. I'm near the end of a set of BFG A/Ts now, they're behaving much nicer on wet roads than the LTX tires did at the end.

I got 56k out of 2 firestone transforce H/T's in a 265/75R16 load range E. The other 2 tires still have a little less than half tread left. 2wd powerstroke tends to eat up rear tires :grinpimp:

I'm running 35" Mickey Thompson ATZ's on 20's. Load range E. I love them

we run Michelin on our work trucks (f250-f350's) and they last forever. And our trucks weigh in at 10,000-16,000lbs. I think we got 50k miles out of one set on dirt roads before it started crackin between the treads, and it still had plenty of 40% of the tread still on them
