I posted awhile back about my fj40 running hot with the 350. I put one of the water regulators in and it didnt help. Any other suggestions? What about about putting a cowl or something on the hood for better air flow??

Are you running a mechanical fan or electric one? I would check to make sure that your fan is sucking instead of blowing. I had a problem with my cruiser over heating after I put my 350 in. Come to find out, I was using a fan assembly from a newer Chevrolet, and the fan was pushing instead of sucking. I tried forever to figure it out on my own why it was over heating, but I finally had a mechanic look at it. Ten minutes went by and he diagnosed the problem. He just happened to walk in front of my cruiser and his shirt fluttered. That is when he felt the grill and air was coming out of it, instead of sucking in.
If you are running a electric fan, make sure that it is not wired backwards. This would have the same effect. HTH

You might want to search for the post that was here awhile back that alllockedup (?) started. There is some pretty good info on cooling there.

fj, here are few things I did to my cruiser to keep it cool. First and foremost make sure your radiator is in top shape, with out a bunch of pinched off veins. Get the biggest mech fan you can use behind the radiator. Fab or purchase a shroud, making sure the back of the fan blades protrude past the end of the shroud. This is important for the fan to work properly. Use no more than a 170' thermostat. You can use a stock water pump, just purchase the impeller disc from Summit, part # BRA-3500-01, this will increase your pumps capicity by 50-60%. Cheap and easy to install. A couple of more things that I did was to mount a electric fan in front of my radiator so I can switch it on when I need it. DO NOT USE THE THERMSTATICLY CONTROLED FAN SWITCH. I trimmed the hell out of my inner fenders so I would get maximum air flow through the engine compartment. If you are running headers these can creat a lot of under the hood heat. The way I did away with this problem was to wrap the headers with some header wrap, worked like a charm. Last weekend I took a little road trip to Moab, I was pulling my army trailer loaded with camping gear and on the highway the temp never got over 200 degrees, not bad considering the outside temp was hovering around 100 degrees. Once I hit the trails it never got over 200 also. So in my humble opinion all the things in conjunction keep for a cool cruiser.

I have been having the same problems so here is what i am going to do. For less than $200 you can buy an aluminum 2 row 1" tube radiator from summit (made by griffen or whoever) this will cool 20% better than a 4 core brass of equal dimensions. so i am going to get the biggest on that will reaonaly fit under my hood. I will just modify my radiator support to hold it. problem solved for around $250 or less. not bad for an aluminum radiator

Install a Griffin or Howes radiator with a fan shroud. I have a Griffin with a custom shroud and stock mechanical fan with an 16" electric pusher fan. No overheating problems ever. Even in Texas in the middle of August.

I had the same problem! I took my stock 66 tlc radiator to the local radiator shop the put it on a test cell and said that it was running at 13 gpm and after they cleaned it out it ran at 26 gpm with a 13psi cap and a 180* therm it was way good enought to cool a 350. I also have a 16" elec. fan $70 at advanced.

We have 2 350 rigs running the 4 core from CCOT, with clutch fans and shrouds, they cool well except if the temp is over 100, we have isntalled pusher electric fans on them with a toggle to keep them down in the 210 range. They only climb when rock crawling, with the elect. fan on they stay safe, if I were to do it over I would probably go with the Griffin. Be Cool makes a really trick radiator I used on a customers TBI with AC conversion. very pricey though $620.....
