I'm looking at making a move to the Sanantonio area and was wondering if it's going to be worth my time to evn bring my rig out or am I just going to be dissapointed. Katemcy and treesranch looks cool but the scheduled events thing kinda sucks compared to what I'm used to. So, what else is there. Lay it down...

Gilmer (Barnwell Mt.) is just past Dallas from there, and if you like hanging out with drunken rednecks there's Shiloh Ridge.

You can go wrong with Katemcy. check with baertrax offroad in dallas, (russ or christy) they are great people and can give you teh skinny on all the runs there and other places in Texas...

There are some trails in Bandera county (the "Texas Hill Country" not to far from San Antone). that make the the hammers look easy.. but you will have to find some locals to show you around... West Texas has some good wheeling.. East Texas has more mud than you know what to do with... As already mentioned there Is Barnwell Mountian in Gilmer, Texas i think theat they have another place in West Texas too ...

Bring your rig there is always some where to wheel ....

Not really much around San Antonio. Use to be able to hit the Devils Den but thats gone now, I just checked Cline Ranchs website seems like its down or pretty much non-existing..IMO espcially since Ive lived here most of my life Texas has some good places to wheel but all in all it sucks compared to other states. But you do what you have to do.

Here a link to a local SA area club and places to wheel... its a jeep club but I dont recall them ever really being strictly jeeps..kinda if you like to wheel then its good.

Lots of good wheeling fairly close to San Antonio. I say fairly lightly but it isn't near as bad as I have to travel to wheel.

First of all check out www.Texas4x4.org as these guys wheel hard and know all the places. Good bunch of guys too!!

Now the places I know of and a few I have been too. =========

Satan's Playground looks extremely promising!! The website is www.sp-orv.com

Katemcy Rocks is a whole lot of fun. Last time I was there all the Arkansas boys were there and that is a long drive if that tells you anything. Katemcy has everything you could need and want.

Cline Ranch---Cline is a small place and still very alive. Get up a group of guys and the owner Dan is more than happy to open up for you. He is a great guy to deal with too. The wheeling ranges from extremely easy to pretty tough. It is worth the very short drive from san Antonio and the 5 hour drive for me. I hope to make it one of my first runs in my new rig as a matter of fact.

Trees Ranch.-------Haven't been there yet but can't wait. I have seen the pics and everybody says it is a absolute blast.

I am leaving out some, but these are all close to san Antonio. What kind of rig you got anyways?

Clayton, Oklahoma is a little far but a must do. It is about 450 miles from San Antonio
Can go any time you like, night wheel etc. etc.

Katemcy is also a must do, not far from you. 125 miles, but not open every weekend which sucks. Also wheeling stops there at dark and no wheeling on friday unless the park is open on thursday night.

Barnwell mountain is in Gilmer, tx. 380 miles. Dusty, good hill climbs, the rocks here are iron ore. Good camping no wheeling past 10:00 PM

There are others by you that have been mentioned
