Hey fellas,

I'm a Dodge guy, but my Dad has a 2003 F350 diesel with dual rear wheels. He's having a big problem with his factory hubs engaging from time to time and not disengaging automatically. I checked around a little and nobody seems to sell a set of aftermarket hubs for these trucks. The ones I did find said "except dual rear wheels."

Are these available?

Thanks.

I didnt think they were different from DRW to SRW. I bet he has the vacuum actuated hubs. I have seen them mess up. My suggestion would be to get the stock ones that are not vacuum assisted. My dads FX4 350 doesnt have the vacuum ones. My uncles FX4 350 does? Also what I have noticed when this happens. Is that they dont actuate when you actually need them.

vacuum actuated hubs?

Do they have a vacuum line going to the hub itself? I've never seen or heard of anything like this.

I have seen the vacuum actuated collar on the axle tube that splines the inner and intermediate axle shafts together. It's called the "Center Axle Disconnect System" or something like that. Is that what you're talking about?

I too am a dodge guy. As well as many others. My 01 has the cad so I know what you mean. I cant remember exactly how or where they hook to. But they do actually have vacuum lines that go through the middle of the unit bearing. They are "automatic" hubs. When opted anyway. So they are auto locked by the t-case and vacuum actuator even in the two wheel position on the hub itself. You can either look for dad or have him look to see if there is a hose coming down to the hubs with the wires for the ABS.

There is a vacuum line the runs parallel to the brake line. It will then go into the top of the knuckle. You cant miss it. I have had trouble with mine a few times not engaging, but thats always been when i about to get stuck and then decide to lock it into four-wheel. Worst case senario, get out of the cab and manually lock the hubs in. They are designed that way in case the vacuum actuated hub doesnt lock. I have never had a problem with the system if I engaged it way in advanced though. When disengaging, make sure to allow the truck to roll backwards and free-wheel for at least 10 yards. That has always helped with mine disengaging.
