: Tall Trail rig + Short Co-pilot = Me needing some steps

She's short, Jeeps tall, and kodiak steps are pricey.

Has anyone made a set of steps that swing back up? She can get out all right but she has a hard time gettting in.

I cant leave her at home, I cant get a taller girl and I aint lowering the jeep.

Although she is having fun climbing up the tire!

Any Ideas?

A few years back I seen one on a full size ford that was really friggen tall and the guy had it under spring tension and he just pulled it down when he wanted to get in he had a cable to pull it back up.
It had spring tention and it just kinda swung back up.

I could get some sort or rock rail but that would still be to high for her to swing her leg up onto.

Just short of a sling shot, I need Ideas.

Friend of mine has a plastic step stool on a rope. Wife puts the stool in place, steps up into the truck, then pulls the stool up into the truck. Quick, easy, and cheap :D

how about a chain 18" long and weld the center 6" togher and then weld or bolt the two ends to the Jeep and it will swing out of the way when it hits something on the trail.

All great Ideas. I Really love the rope and step stool idea.

I just saw that steel horse make a peice of crap that swings out.

I need it to come down So the 5" 2 hellraiser can get a foot on it.

I just had a brain fart on a design and maybe even a spring loaded retractor, I am pretty quik at making junk out of steel so I should have something by wed. (Work at mach shop)

Although if you guys have some ideas I would still love to hear them.

Tell her to climb up on a tire first, then step in to the rig.

D Said......."Although she is having fun climbing up the tire!"

Shes doing that now. Might cause a saftey issue if the tire is wet or muddy.

climbing up a wet/muddy tire isnt' that bad either.

ok.. park off-camber, her side down. ;) or if handy, next to a rock.

You know a bunch of my girl friends bitch about climbing into my truck. They tell me it is too tall (it is SO very sadly short too). I wonder what they will say when it goes up at least 4 inches at the end of this summer. I might have to be rockin the step ladder on a rope. That would be sad because even then, it will only be riding on 35"s probably...

Hmm.... maybe thats why I can't find a GF. I have this "no step stool" requirement to get in my jeep. LOL

The best step in for jeeps that i've seen is a horse stirup. Just strap it onto the roll bar where it comes down to the floorboard by the dash. Just pull it out when you need to get in, and then tuck it inside by your seat brackets when you're not using it.

I couldn't find anyone that would donate a single stirup, so I'm going to make the same thing, but with a nylon strap.

that is the best idea so far I think (besides the motor home steps :D )

I think you should build some 2x4 rocker skids and tie in a swing step under it..

step:

have it fold back and up so that the pivots are sidways to her steping in, that way it is stiff and secure, then it folds up ackwards, using a hole in the rocker skid to run a rope through or somthing - rope could run on tu by door and be tied to somthing inside so it doesn't fall on the ground - then have a loop and a bolt or somthing to hook it to when you pull the step up..so it holds it tight...

OR use a electric antenea to move it down - fold it back

or maybe a electro magnet/and return spring setup..

My gf has trouble getting in at 4" with 31s (but isn't it great helping when she's wearin a skirt?) and when I go to 6" with 35s I am definetly going to need to solve this same problem. My plans are to drill two holes in my rock rails and get one of those bolt on steps. I'll attach it with two bolts and wingnuts so that it is easily removable to go wheelin. And of course, I'll engrave on it "Nicole's Princess Step"

I built the sidesteps on my old Scout II with a hidden secret. They swing down. I sleeved they main tube and hooked them up to my E-brake lever. I just left them down when I was out of the rig, then yanked the lever and pulled them up. Kinda like big wings! I ended up smashing the main slider, though, and they didn't work so well anymore so I welded them up solid and said Fawk It. Poor wife hated the truck from then on.
Gonna do it again on my new ride, just beef the main shaft more.

I'm 5ft tall...the jeep is on 35's and I have no problem using the tire. I've been in other rigs much higher than mine and I used the tires then as well. Once you've done it a few times you get used to it. I personally don't want steps but some chicks feel they need to have them. :roxy:

Yeah, but then she might be knocking her teeth out on her knee caps!
Hey, Roxy? I really don't think you would have any problems asking some nice Gent to give you a push up into your ride;) !

Dont really think it has to do with being a short " Chick" I think it has mainly to do with the fact it would be safer for her to have something to help her get into the jeep.

The tires cool but it only takes one time to slip off of it and for her to get hurt and I wouldnt want that. That would make the day of wheeling pretty crappy if i have to rush her to the HOSP.

She doesnt care one bit if I make her anything, It has to do with me wanting to.

That said. The rope ideas are great but just like a horse you foot swings under them and that makes it harder to get up.

Anything that isnt fixed is out of the question, but if you add some sort of retrator to get it out of the way, thats the way to go

So far I have come up with a pretty cool design on paper, I will see if it pans out next week.

I 've always used the tire. Boggers are great step ladders. Mind you they're 44's

I also used the tire on the jeep with 35's
