: raised gas tank 11 inches
RockReadyXJ 06-16-2002, 09:28 AM i started this little project cause when i put on my waggy springs the 60's diff cover was hitting the gas tank skid at full compression of both rear wheels. figured if i was going to fab mounts to move it two inches i might as well go 11 :p its almost done, just need some aluminim diamond plate ( pianted black) to cover the frame. I definetly used nasviks as a guide. i think i'll need a skid so i don't get hung up on the rear crossmember.

Bgcj5 06-16-2002, 02:00 PM Nice work looks very clean. I like the substructure u built.
RockReadyXJ 06-16-2002, 03:01 PM thanks, i used 1x1 1/8 inch wall tubing, went together pretty easy, i'm just wondering if my shitty welds will hold.
nice :D btw you can LINK without a redstar. you just cant upload
nasvik 06-16-2002, 05:36 PM Nicely done.
I've decided to redo mine - should have moved it forward to right behind the seats.... :D

WytNkls 06-16-2002, 08:04 PM Looks good! Ive done one similar.

stemp 06-16-2002, 10:19 PM Good job. Looks real clean. How much do you think you will have into it when you have it done with the diamond plate? Rough estimate? Looking at either doing the same with my CJ or bolting in a fuel cell.
Stemp
RockReadyXJ 06-17-2002, 05:18 AM Nasvik, Yea after doing it i think i would have rather moved it a little forward to kinda center up that weight in the tub instead of having it hang in the back.
It was 20 bucks for 40 feet of the 1x1 sqaure tube and i only used about 30 feet and i think the diamond plate is going to cost about 50 so about 70-80 bucks depending on how much the diamond plate is ( will find out today) including all the bolts.
RockReadyXJ 06-18-2002, 03:22 PM finished it, might keep it chrome kinda spruces up the OD green

stemp 06-18-2002, 04:32 PM Looks Sweet:cool: I like what you did with the filler. Are you going to push the rear axle back now that you have all that room? Come on man, everyone is doing it. You know you want to.
preach 06-18-2002, 04:46 PM What, if any, issues have you guys run into doing this? I have about ZERO bed right now and could , seemingly, easily do this right now.
Thanks.
misfitcj 06-18-2002, 07:27 PM nice work is that the stock cage with mods?
RockReadyXJ 06-19-2002, 06:04 AM The rear axle is already back 2 inches from the waggy springs, thats what started this project but yes there are more plans to go further back with the axle, i am thinking some MJ springs.
no issues besides where to put the filler, i didn't want to go out the side cause i thought about my tires hitting the tubes, other than that all lines reached and was easy.
yes thats a 92-95 family cage with some add ons, seat mounts, spreaders.
stemp 06-25-2002, 10:27 AM Hey RockReady, Is the tank secured to the bed or the frame? What tips for someone planning on doing the same? Tips for the filler location??? Thanks man.:D
RockReadyXJ 06-25-2002, 03:43 PM It is connected to the body with the little frame i built, theres alot of pics on this link http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291726463 and i can take more if you need them. Just measure about how big the whole needs to be and cut, i brought the filler up into the wheelwell and built a little box to put the filler in, i used the stock hoses and filler.
Ruckus 06-25-2002, 07:01 PM Awesome, thats exactly what i want to do to my YJ as well. id like to see how you did the filler hose as well as how you re routed all other lines. How long did it take you from start to finish? Any tips or probles that you ran into?
Those are the 44044 waggy springs, or stock ones. What tires are you running?
Ryan
RockReadyXJ 06-26-2002, 06:07 AM front is stock 6 leaf waggy and rear is stock 5 leaf waggy, i plan on getting some 6 or 7 leaf packs for the rear. Only hose i rerouted was the filler and vent tubes, the supply and return lines should be long enough to reconnect, and the plug for the sending unit was plenty long also. took about 5 days but thats just cause i was taking my time. my tires are 35x15.5x15 SXs i take some pics of the filler box today and post them
RockReadyXJ 06-29-2002, 08:17 AM heres a pic of what i did for the filler tubes, for the guy who wanted to see theres a few more in the album now to http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid24/p970cde451d3dbb900eddd9284287b9ad/fd999ce3.jpg
