Hey, Looking at a Zuki for my son, it's a 1988 5 speed in pretty decent shape, 130k miles with valve tick & usual oil leaks for that many miles. Main issue is the tranny gear shift has to be held in 2nd, 4th & reverse or it will pop out of gear. Anyone have any experience with these trannies and know if it's common for all three of these gears to act up at the same time? I'm thinking it's a shifter issue since it's all the gears on the bottom of the shifter pattern (closest to the seat). No tranny noise I could hear.

Are the lifters easy to pull & replace? (By that, does the head need to be pulled to access them.)

The motor seems in really good shape, fired right up with no smoke.

OHC no lifters sound like you need a new shift sheet go RRO (http://www.rocky-road.com/zukdrive.html)

Hey, thanks for the info on the OHC. Probably just needs adjustment.

Shifter sheet looks like it's for the transfer case shifter by the advert at Rocky Road but the problem with this one is on the manual tranny shifter popping out of 2nd, 4th & reverse unless ya hold down the shifter.

there's a similer sheet on the transmissions shifter...

But if it's not that then worst case you need a tranny slaped in. They sell on this board in the $100 range in working condition. On a stock rig its about a 2-3 hour job to remove and replace a tranny.

good luck
