for the second time in about 5 times wheeling with my AA 203 to lc case. setup I have broken the input shaft that goes through both cases. I havent taken it apart yet but I'm pretty positive thats what broke.

just wondering if anyone has had similar problems with this shaft. When I broke the first one AA said that I was the first one to break one. I know my install is right and I'm running dana 44's front and rear so this should not be my weak point.

just wondering if you guys would replace it or just get a new case. I'm thinking a d300 with 4:1 or an atlas. But I cant really afford either one right now.

Is this the AA kit or is it Jerry Nichoals kit that AA makes? I am curious because I bought kit from Mudrak and hope thats not the one I bought. Thanks

That sucked,I thought you would of broke a U-Joint first,or the Cruiser case.

Maybe it's time for the ORD 203-205 doubler,but thats a 750.00 adapter + you need to find a 205.

Wonder how much longer that would be ?

Damn! Sorry to hear about that... I was actually considering going with a TH350+205 and then stepping up to a 203-205 doubler, but I guess I'm gonna end up saving my pennies for an Atlas II... When you price all the adapters, etc, you end up so close that its crazy (I guess that's AA's plan all along, eh).

Does the shaft frag or just shear off?

I'm runnin a sm465. I dont remember how many spline it is. last one I broke broke right after a bearing. one side was a clean break but the other you could see twisting at the VERY end of the break. when I broke the first one I was running toy axles.

back to my question. Do you guys think a dana 300 is gonna be strong enough? or should I save up for the atlas. also since the atlas is modeled (I think) after the dana 300 is it the same adapter?????

This doesn't help you much, but I'm running the same gearboxes, and I haven't had any trouble except for worn input gears getting more worn.

I've got 2F-SM465-NP203-1978lctcase.

The important difference is the engine, I think.

Don't bother with a dana 300, they aren't all that strong...just average.

If you're thinking atlasII then maybe also consider a dual toy pickup t-case...you rarely hear of anyone breaking a toy t-case.

I think a 300 would probably hold up well for you, I'm running one behind a 454 and sm420. I would just hate to lose the gearing options that the dual case gives you. With the Atlas or 4:1'd 300 youv'e got high or super-low with nothing in between, and that in between gear is nice to have. Maybe try a 203-300 combo, that can be done without adding too much length.

I have the same 203+cruiser case and have never had a problem at all. I am going on my third year of having the setup. The only difference between mine and yours is that I run a TH350 auto tranny. As we all know the auto is much easier on the running gear. Is there any way that AA can check and see if maybe there was a problem with the milling or the stock that they used when milling the shafts. I have had my setup all over Moab, Farmington, Montrose and surrounding areas in some nasty situations and never a problem. I hope that AA is standing behind ther products when this happens. When yours broke were you under a extreme torque situation? More details please.
