Pic from this weekend I though was cool. I'll post some more pics and stories from the trip laster. Were were the first group to run this ranch other than locals. There was a good bit of carnage and the place is awesome by Texas standards.

Shrock, you gotta hook up w/ my man JC. He's on this board & living somewhere in Houston now. You Gotta get him outta the mud & onto some rocks so he can practice for some New Mexico 'wheeling :D

How close is this ranch to Houston??

Shrock
06-17-2002, 10:43 AM
The ranch is is Mason, TX. About 4hrs from Houston or 1.5hrs NW of Austin.

Oilburner, JC Garret? We have hooked up once so far to a spot near me. He wanted to go but had a fishing trip planned. I will definitely drag him out to Mason as soon as het gets a trailer. After he sees the rest of the pics I bet I wont have to drag very hard. :D

The side tube on the sliders along with my tire stickout saved my ass bigtime this weekend. I'll post more pics tonight when I get home. Hint, how did I get into that stange position in the pic above? :D

Joe White (Mitsuzu) drove a basically bone stock Samurai all over this place. He had to take easier lines at times and avoid the bigger obstaces, but EVERYONE in attendance was blown away by the little Sammi. I cant tell you how many times I heard people say "Oh that's it. He not going anywhere now." only to be proven wrong. Other quotes I overheard "I guess lockers and gears are a waste of money." "If he makes it up this one I'm selling my Jeep." "Sammi's are fawkin awesome!"

You and your rocks. :p Mud can be fun, sometimes. Sure, the cleanup isn't very fun, especially with the doors off... but still. Mud *CAN* be fun, too. :D :D :D

(The camera doesn't do the mud justice - especially since the paint matches it)

Actually... wait... I don't want to clean my truck up at tear it's seals apart anymore. :( So, when you gonna sell that little trailer and procure one that'll hold TWO rigs? ;)

FAWK!!!!!!!!

I was raining and I slid right off into the crack.

I got tired of holding myself up while people were trying to figure out a way to get me out of this mess and decided to try driving out of it. Flipped the front locker on and drove right out! Only damage was some (more) rock rash on my wheels, scraped sideview mirror, and gouges on the side tubes on my sliders!

The pic at the very top of this thread is me driving out.

Shrock

This was the trail TO the rocks 1 minute off the road. Where the FAWK did that big hole come from. I think I would have rolled here if someone did not grab me. I started tilting and I heard someone say "There he goes...." Not exactly a confidence booster that eary on.

An FJ-40 rolled down here somewhere. I was already up higher so I dont know where, but it may have been this same hole.

Shrock

This was a lot steeper than it looks. The rocks were still a little wet too. I could not get enough traction on this line, but moved right a little and made it up.

Shrock

This was my only breakage. TRE pulled right out of the drag link. I loosened the other side and screwed in in further past the munched threads and was able to finish the day.

There was one roll, two bent tie rods, one broken motor mount, one broken transmission crossmember, one busted ujoint and probably more.

Lots more pics here:

The driver side brake line in the "hole" pic looks pretty tight too. Looks like maybe some longer lines might be in order. What do you think?

Looks like ya'll had a blast... What's the name of the Ranch. I know of Gilmer, Alto and a couple others around Texas, but which was that???

Is it one of the public ones?

I may try to make a swap to 33's. Got a few peeps interested in trading. So 4:1's and 5.13's may be the route I take.

give me your 33's and I'll give you my 35's
