: Disc brake conversion?
newmexicocrawler 09-15-2007, 09:57 PM I have a 86 f-250 with the 10.25 (or 10.50) full floater rear diff. it has drum brakes now, i want to convert to rear disk brakes, what is the DIY way of doing this? What calipers off what vehicle? what rotor off what vehicle?
Is there someone building a kit? if so who?
Thanks in advance......

do you know for a fact that the 96 e350 rears fit perfectly? are they 9/16th stud?
i bought 2001 chev 1 ton srw rotors and they are damn close, just have to machine the hub down or rotor down .005"
now i might return them and try the e350 ones if what you say is true
supervert 09-17-2007, 09:59 PM mine slips right on, no machining

TroyM 09-20-2007, 12:13 AM how much were they?
i got them for $123 from Lordco here in Canada, list price is $160 i believe.
chev half ton calipers fit over these too.
Proeliator 09-20-2007, 12:40 AM Saw the link for Blackbirds. They're based in Spokane, and a really good outfit if you want to buy a kit.

thats pretty cheap but doesn't help me because I live in Canada.
so far im into the disc conversion for $123. got k5 blazer caliper, pads, brackets for free. I see no point in buying a kit for $360 without calipers  and when you need new rotors, you have to order them through blackbird. I know exactly which rotor they use and they machine the center opening down .005'' to clear the sterling hub, then they sell it to you. Im against any kit or company when I can do it cheaper myself with a bit of research.
Pt_Ranger_V8 09-21-2007, 10:01 AM what are you using for the bracket to mount the calipers to?

just cutting down the stock front chevy caliper brackets and welding them to the axle tube. you can also drill holes in the brackets and bolt them up to the stock flange with a little more work.
scroll down to do it yourself 14b discbrakes. this is how im doing mine

TroyM 09-23-2007, 09:32 PM the brackets just dont have enough meat on them to weld to the stock 4 hole flange on the housing. i decided to make my own brackets out of 3/8 plate and bolt them on BEHIND the stock flange like the blackturd customs kit.

Ah Spokane.. it's a city made up entirely of proeliator clones!! BEWARE!! If you don't know why this is bad, BE EVEN MORE BEWARED!! :grinpimp:
