i have access to a hilux (mini) case and am super keen to do this:

http://www.ih8mud.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=vendor&action=display&num=1021051210

i mustve missed the thread if it was posted on here.......
:rasta:

anyone know anything else about it.....
mainly:
cost $$$ and
availability, for split case.....other cruiser cases (time frame)

one month? one year?

cheers

I called on this and actually talked to Marlin (by luck), I was quoted the approximate price of 1500.00 to use a SM420 and 3 speed cruiser case, not including reduction box.

I have some issues with this investment:

1. cruiser tcase strength for that gearing.
2. slop in drivetrain due multiple adapters (splines).
3. linkage shifters everywhere
4. For my wheelin, 170 to 1 is stupid slow and would just piss everybody off.
5. Price

This has been discussed several times on this board.

While we are on the subject of gear reduction, whats the latest on the AA Rock Box? Last I heard, the release date had been pushed back to sometime in May. Has anybody heard anything new? Is the Rock Box on the market yet? Anyone running one yet?

I think the split case would be alright with that gearing.
Three speed or four speed...:nuke:

Mini's do not seem to have problems with slop in the drivetrain... Can we say three tcases in a row???

Mini tcase is a toploader. And very easy to run cable shifters for the LC tcase. so just one more shifter. Cool with me..

Everyone wheel's differently. and you are missing the point. It is not how low you can go, it is the availability of multiple choices. the more choices you have the better off you will be. Choices are good. Hell Camo is now 340:1. Now that is low!!!! how many people yell at him now??? ;)

Price is the kicker.

For less money they will probably be doing the AA Rocbox... Which I actually like more than Marlin's stuff.
Don't get me wrong. I love marlins junk it is just the timing and cost that kills me. Over a month ago he told me that the adapter to a SM420 is a week out.
There is no way I would wait for Marlin...

You are looking at ~$1500 and I would be suprised if you did not wait at least the greater part of a year.

I love the amount of options coming out now though..

Sheesh, who the hell would put Dual mini cases in a LC.. What a dumbass  ;)

I agree, If I lived where you did and had access to those rock trails I would want that option. Hopefully, we will get some feedback soon :).

talked to marlin, he says everything is a go right now for american trannies, both SM's and both GM autos to the mini reduction unit then to the LC case. nothing yet for the split case, and he will have the adapters to put the mini between the stock 4 speed LC in a month or so(next summer) and the price will be about $1300. same as the AA rocbox, but for the money with marlin you get 2.28:1 for intermediate box(4.70:1 not yet available which would be an extra $400 anyway) stock LC 4 spd =65:1, with AA you get 3.44:1 again stock LC 4 spd=98:1,with my 4.56 gears i get 109:1 can you guess what i'm goin with??

$1500 US :barf:

thats like $3k OZ :(

DARNIT, that gearset is looking better and better

plus the months of waiting, i read over on the toy board, he takes his time developing stuff, so the split case adapter is even further away

choices? yeah!!

rhino...what areyou going with..???

i hate maths :rasta:

If you want low cost gow with an NP203 and an SM465 with the AA adapter. If you have a 465 already it's about $700 for parts.

they dont have SM's or NP's in OZ, keep in mind an OZZY started this thread, besides, to buy both tranny and case then the adapter from AA i think you are about at the cost/labor/time to install the roc-box from AA which puts you in the 100:1 and up neighborhood depending on 3-4-5 spd tranny or 3-4-split case. hey BJ, with an OZ 4-5 spd/roc-box/split case and 4:56 gears you get=170:1 thats good aint it?

BJ i think on your 40 i would go with the split case lo gears, it will cost alot do do anything from the states since nothin is used yet, but i'll give u something to think about,, send me a 5 spd and split case for 2F and i'll send you an SM465 and 203 case.

how do i get 170:1?

i was thinking diff gears and my options are:
3.7
4.11
4.3
4.56
4.88
6.71
 (around $500 for pair of gears)

transfer case is split case with 38mm input (i have no idea on the ratio) but im told its
2.28,
was mated originally to my H41 and 3B, but now mated to a H41 thats fitted to a 2H
with rockhopper i can go 3.144
with marks adapters i can go 2.8 (each are around $1500)

gearbox first is
5.2 with late 'F' box 4 speed??
and im currently at 4.9 im told?? (OZ H41)

what does the rockbox do rhino?
details man!! numbers!!
cheers

i would prefer to keep the 4.11s, due to MASS availability of trail spares! :D

are any of my numbers incorrect?

here ya go mate i'll do my best...
OZ 4-5 spd =4.95 1st
roc-box=3.44
split case=2.2
4.56 gears=170:1 with 4.11 gears you get 152:1
the roc box is a small (5") "box" that goes between the tranny and transfer with a 3.44 low ratio, lower than mini case of 2.28.
with your current set-up and rockhopper gears in the split case you will have 63:1,,, good for most everything except the real crazy stuff. the only way to get real low is a doubler.

thanks champ!!

how much for the rockbox?
does it fit between H41 and split case?
what time frame for availability?
what costs?

thanks
yeha, now im getting ever keener for a reduction or double case of some sort

4.95x2.2x4.11=44.757
new 4 speed from early cruiser F
5.2x2.2x4.11=47.018
rocbox
5.2x3.44x2.2x4.11=161.743
stupid low add 6.7 r&p and rockhopper to above
5.2x3.44x3.144x6.7=376.807 (just thought id dream a little and do some math)

161 is SUPER for what i want, and selectable between around 73, and 161 SWEEET (high range in cruiser transfer)

rocbox details?

anyone got any definite info on:
a) availability for split case, it seems there isnt any :(
b) updated info on release dates, all those old threads mentioned march and april, and its june and i havent heard more....??? (the old threads also said dont hold your breath and how we keep getting strung along)
