: CA fix it ticket question
xextr3m3 06-16-2002, 09:32 PM I got a fix it ticket for mudflaps on the way back from hollister today.....The ticket was written in San Martin along 101 and on the ticket it says that I have to go to superior court in San martin and the date it gives me is 8-01-02
Now my question is can i get it signed off locally and taken care of or do I have to go all the way down there to get it signed off and paid?
Toy 4Runner Man 06-16-2002, 09:37 PM U should be able to get it signed off by the local CHP Office, and then send in the signed ticket.
Sillyneck 06-16-2002, 09:46 PM hahah....if that was 10 more tickets in one stop you'd be in my shoes :D
anyways like he said but don't forget your $10 check for da man's time you never asked for :D :flipoff: bored cops who think they are doing good when doing this sh!T.
xextr3m3 06-16-2002, 10:02 PM The last time I got pulled over for mudflaps the cop said the next one was more money???? friends are saying that too??
John H 06-16-2002, 10:08 PM It was probably the same dickhead cop that gave me a mud flap ticket. :flipoff2: Got pulled over around Masten Ave on 101. If it's you second ticket for mud flaps it will be more money and you will have to appear in court.
xextr3m3 06-16-2002, 10:51 PM I dont have a time or anything to appear, it just has a date on there and address
officers name was Demarah and it was north of E. dunne ave.
I was pretty pissed at this guy, I considered getting some locker action in the gravel in front of his car but thought against it
Monkeyboy 06-16-2002, 10:54 PM Make sure you keep a photocopy of the original ticket.
I have had fixit tickets in other counties.
I get mail saying I'm on big trouble and owe an even bigger fine and I missed a court date.
I call up explaining I sent the shit in and they say they never recieved it.
Be careful
redwilly 06-17-2002, 05:28 AM Call the number on the ticket or look up the number and make sure!! i lost my licsence for a while and paid thousands for blowing off tickets from other counties. Don't you have removeable mudflaps? ez to make. Don't get the "failure to comply" ticket!

You will get something in the mail.
Sounds like the same cop. I don't have the paperwork handy but the name sound familiar.
GonPostal 06-17-2002, 08:05 AM I had a fix it ticket I needed to deal with a court that was over 500 miles from home. I had procrastinated getting it signed off, and it was due in a couple of days. I called the court if I could fax them a copy of the signed off ticket to make up time otherwise lost in the mail, with the original to follow in the mail...they said fine. Took it to the local CHP office to get it signed off. They not only signed it off, but they also faxed it to the court for me! I called the court to verify receipt, and they said yep... with the local CHP Fax sig even. Lady at the court said I had a pretty cool CHP office where I lived... I couldn't agree more with her :D

JeepManInNJ 06-17-2002, 01:20 PM What's the deal with this fix it ticket?? Here in Jersey they just shoot you on the side of the road:D
Drunk tank 06-17-2002, 01:56 PM here's a question.....If I get a fix it ticket in another state can I just throw it away and just avoid that state in the near future? I mean......there is no way in hell I am ever going to go back to wyoming.
JohnBuuu 06-17-2002, 04:14 PM i was under the impression that you could not be cited for vehicle infractions in another state, if you are in compliance with your home states regulations. am i wrong?

Brutpwr 06-17-2002, 05:19 PM I'll check with the two guys here at work--they have both gotten tickets more than once... One guy got both of his tickets in Hollister and the other guy got both in East San Jose. The second tickets as I recall are very very expensive for some reason.
Jason :)
nasvik 06-17-2002, 05:44 PM I got two tickets for mudflaps. Paid the full bail amount ($70) for the first and they made me fix it for the second. Just paid the second one last week - $10.
Tell me more about "Failure to Comply." Rather... if you know more about it in fact please reply. :flipoff2:

I don't think they are fix it tickets anymore in chico. I think you'll be paying the $70+ fine :(
I don't run anything on the street that needs flaps anymore because they were starting to cost me too much
oh yea...and this particular thread happened 5 months ago so I think he got it all cleared up by now but I didn't see what happened. you can do trial by mail tho. you'll get their invitation to court then you get to send your rebutle, then they get to deny it, and you get to pay :( shitty!
toykid 11-24-2002, 05:32 PM xextr3m3 were you out a hollister with booger and friends?? did you or and of the others get any pics for us web wheelers?
thanks
SeaBass44 11-24-2002, 05:36 PM cost me $76, said no fix it on flaps anymore.....
TB76Bronco 11-24-2002, 06:10 PM Take a close look at the ticket there will be a box next to the VC section that will say correctable "Yes" or "No". If the officer checks the "No" box you have to pay the fine $75 in this case. If "Yes" is checked they you can fix the problem and have it signed off.
If the officer finds out you have been cited for the same thing and have not fixed it, or you're being a jerk, or he's a jerk he may just check the "No" box. It's usually his discretion.

I can confirm this. Just got my third CVC27600 ticket last week. This time for fender flares. Had the mudflaps installed. Had a nice long chat with the CHP (turns out we know people in common) and he told me just to be nice and act like I'm trying to fix it.

hate to tell you this, but mine was checked fix it, they sent it back to mer, said it's not a fix it in the state of ca anymore. of course others are getting them writtin off.....I sent in my $ said I wanted a trail by mail, and never received the papers! search for my threads on this I was fucked pretty good on this...while others were not!So please don't go around telling people it's a for sure fix it when checked off, when in fact I was fined, 1st ofence too.
55 guy 11-24-2002, 08:15 PM My suggestion would be to go to your local CHP Office with mud flaps on your vehicle, have an Officer sign the ticket, then make a copy and send it to the Court with a check for $10. If you have never been ticketed for this before in this county this is all the should be necessary. Also the Officer Should have written the phone# of the Court on the bottom of the ticket you can call the Court and ask to speek with the traffic divison clerk. Most of the clerks are competent enough to give you the right info. Lastly, if you can't beat em join em!!!
1uglyranger 11-24-2002, 08:17 PM Seabass, sounds like you've just got bad luck:flipoff2:
I've recieved 3 mudflap tickets in the last two years, and it has been $10 each time. Hell if you count front liscnse plate tickets, I can't count that high.... But still 10 bucks.....

I don't recall the exact federal statute but this is generally true. I used it a couple of years ago when I got stopped in CA for inadequate fender flares. It has to do with restricting interstate travel and commerce in case anyone wants to look it up.
However, I wouldn't toss any tickets I got out of my home state without first clearing them through the issuing jurisdiction.

Hi Paul,
I'm not sure why you'd get a ticket, if your mudflaps are adequate in size and location. 27600 requires adequate protection be provided by the body (flares) OR mudflaps...
from http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=27001-28000&file=27600-27607 :
27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or
more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with
fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or
unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread.
This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from
registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of
under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
LOPPY 11-26-2002, 02:40 PM I heard somewhere that they only allow you so many tickets, then they pull the registration on the vehicle. Dont know what the limit was, but anyone heard of this? True? That way if you get too many, you cant register your vehicle any more.
xextr3m3 11-26-2002, 03:34 PM talk about dragging up an old post:flipoff2:
oh by the way......paid my $10 for the hour I stood in line:mad:
GRMhick 11-26-2002, 04:24 PM ehh, good ol san martin sheriffs dept. I used to commute every day to san jose, and the guy stopped me 2 blocks from my house  . another time one of the sheriffs stoped me in downtown morgan hill. I still wonder what they are doing out of the county, and in the city?? I guess they are just bored
(oh, and where the cop used to hide behind some people bushes down the street from my place in morgan hill.. the owners cut down ALL the bushes, so the cop cant hide anymore- SUCKA!! lol)
