: Just built a 10/22
Jeff. 09-17-2007, 10:06 PM I know...a 10/22. Well, all of my big boy guns cost a lot to shoot, so I figured I'd build a .22 that will cost less and be fun as hell to shoot. My other three .22's are either broke or boring...
See here it is...before
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b172/jtaylor23/IMG_7064.jpg
And after...
It now has:
Hogue Overmolded stock
Tactical Solutions matte black fluted bull barrel
Volquartsen auto bolt release, extended mag release, exact edge extractor
Clark adjustable trigger/hammer
Mueller 4.5x14-40 Scope with flip up covers
Weaver rail
Harris Bi-pod
Millet wind-loc rings
and I think that's about it...

afroman006 09-17-2007, 10:29 PM That scope's a little excessive for a .22 doncha think
CherokeeTerrorist 09-17-2007, 10:42 PM looks awesome man, i love all of my 10/22's. best plinker ever. And if i were a squirrel near your house i would be very afraid!:D
Cue-Ball 09-18-2007, 05:02 AM Why didn't you get a longer barrel. It looks sawed off.
Aces'n'8s 09-18-2007, 05:25 AM That scope's a little excessive for a .22 doncha think
Not really. Take a look at what some benchrest hunters use for optics and you'll see what "excessive" really is....
4x401cj 09-18-2007, 06:42 AM Sunshades are :rainbow::laughing:.
Aside from that, it`s a great looking rifle.
The Hogue Overmolded stocks are really nice, been thinking about building another using one.

With that scope they dont really have to be "near" him at all, they could probably be in the next county and still be in danger :flipoff2:
Vermin 09-18-2007, 08:13 AM Naah, the scope is fine. I think it's Muellers AVP version - which is actually designed for small caliber/rimfire stuff. I usually only shoot 50 yards with my 10/22 - and almost always wish I had more than 9x on my scope - if for nothing else, to see where the bullets are hitting (one ragged hole is hard to eyeball) -
Nice setup :D
aloharover 09-18-2007, 08:28 AM Cool looking rifle.
just another area I have to go but want to give a try.

Thanks for explaining for me, yes it's the AVP. I wouldn't say that they were "designed" for rimfire/sm. caliber...since they are quite a good big game scope as well. At a maximum of 100 yards for this gun, the scope will be all that and a bag of fucking chips. Plus, it was on sale and only $30 more than the 3x9-40 that I had originally purchased.
As for the sunshade being gay...first, it was free with the scope, second lookswise - I dig it. Third, and most important, it will not be used unless I need it.
This setup should produce groups of .6-1 inch at 100 yards according to everything I've read assuming I come across some good, consistent ammunition. That means squirrel heads at 100 yards with a .22. I love it.
Vermin - I'll get you the numbers.
Why didn't you get a longer barrel. It looks sawed off.
It's a bull barrel. Most poeple think that the longer the barrel, the better...well, with rimfire, the powder burns so damn fast it doesn't matter. This barrel is far more accurate than a factory barrel.
NY_crawler 09-18-2007, 09:00 AM Sunshades are :rainbow::laughing:.
Sun shades are not :rainbow:. If you do a lot of shooting with a scope especially on hot days, having a sun shade extended all the way out to the end of the barrel will eliminate the heat waves coming off the barrel and blurring your vision in front of the sight. Yes it does look a little:rainbow: and cuts down on the field of view especially in low light conditions but they are practical.
bronko 09-18-2007, 09:48 AM Twins??? :flipoff2:
4runner 09-18-2007, 10:01 AM more scope gheyness for you to enjoy...

No way! Fuckin' awesome! What barrel is that and what are your groups like? Any aftermarket internals?

Fluted Green Mountain Barrel w/ the scope base attached to the barrel not the receiver...It has a polymer buffer and a I had Hornet Products due the trigger assembly which turned out pretty sweet for the price:

Everything was then Duracoated black to match. As far as groups at 100 yds I'm making roughly quarter sized groupings (with Federal Match) but it mostly shoots at critters, not paper
whistle pig 09-18-2007, 03:53 PM Nice rifle.
Get some Lapua master ammo in the yellow box. It is pricey at 7.50 for a box of 50 but it is some of the most accurate rimfire ammo you can buy...
Jeff. 09-18-2007, 04:16 PM I was just lookig at the Lapua stuff. I was debating on spending the money. I'll grab a box of those as well as another box of cheaper match grade and see what the gun likes.
Napoleon047 09-18-2007, 05:18 PM i picked up a 10/22 recently when bass pro had them on sale for $139. my question is, if i am unwilling to spend the $$$ for match grade 22, would a bull barrel and such be pointless?
morpheus 09-18-2007, 06:50 PM looks good you need some bling now :grinpimp:

36+ X for a 50-100 yard rifle is overkill? :flipoff2:

That depends on what you're wanting. Do you want 5 shots going through one hole at 50 yards? Or, rather those 5 being spread across a dime/nickel at that range?
If you can control your movements between the time you consciously think about pulling the trigger and the projectile leaves the barrel...no, it wouldn't be pointless.:flipoff2: IMO, most all that $$$ mod stuff helps reduce down on user error.
I know quite a few shooters who left out the $300 tuned triggers and spaceweight bolts but still use a bull barrel and achieve great accuracy.
I dig that 10/22....
Aces'n'8s 09-18-2007, 07:34 PM 36+ X for a 50-100 yard rifle is overkill? :flipoff2:
That all depends....you hunting sand fleas?
:flipoff2:
Jeff. 09-18-2007, 09:17 PM The bull barrel alone is where you're going to get a huge chunk of your accuracy. Match grade bullets are only going to give you more consistency with that accuracy. Components like triggers do what was mentioned above, help defray user error which results in even greater accuracy.

Gotta castrate them somehow.
