i want to know if anyone has done a toyota front axle swap on a cj5. i have a 71 cj5, and it has a d27 with drums. it looks like a piece of shit, and ive hear there weak as hell. i have a 84 toyota front axles with leafs its stonger and has disc's. i was looking and it would also make the front trac a little wider. the cj already has cross over so the steering i should be able to do. the toy springs r longer and flatter becuz its soa. it would also give it a shackel reversal. thats good on cj's right? so stronger, flex better, trac better and has disc's? can i go wrong? has anyone done this swap? what do u jeep guys think of this?

but it still has BIRFIELDS. and it is 6 lug. so you are gonna have to do something about the rear.
as for shackle reversals....i dont personally like them cause if you use stock springs in a SOA setup, when the front axle compressses to go over an obstical, the axle will be moving forward. also SR will make the rear part of the spring alot closer to the ground....thus loosing ground clearence...

I think Brandon has the yota axles on his jeep. Search for his posts. Dunno.

i have a 85 cj7 and i did the axel swap with 84 toy's front and rear
. i used the toy leafs for my front and coils for the rear w/5 links. i love my switch, they are stronger and lighter then my stocks.
the only problem i'm having is that the front leaves are flating out alittle. i have reversal shackles.
you will need to change your brake lines since the toys are metric and the jeep is standard and your drive shafts. other then that you'd be set.
if you want to see a pic just email me at coiledcj7@pirate4x4.com.
hope this helps

what size u joint does a d 27 have? what ever they r they seem very small, and it looks like the brifield would stronger, and if not theres always a elimator kit or super brifields ( lifeitime warranty).

the Toyota axle will be a huge upgrade over the 27. I personally wouldn't choose to swap in a Toyota front, but if that's what you have it is definetely worth it to junk the 27.
