First the Rant!!

What the hell is going on around here. This place is falling apart. We’ve got post about stickers, and DAN’s that don’t use the fawk’n search button to find a post about pics that already exists. Guys swapping 5.38’s into a Dana 30:laughing:

Step up the pace boys, or we might as well call this place the Heep section.

Now the weekend update,

Nothing too exciting tore down the spare 727, picked up a Heep 727 on Thrs. Fixed my AAL that had worked its way out of the spring pack (I don’t run clamps so I can be a ramp whore) Finished the tree house, and cleared the side yard for the 1,200' of tube on the way

I got back to camp early after my Saturday wheelin' trip..

Despite having NEW and SIPED TSLs up front with a locker, and a worn out Trashlock and bald TSLs in the back..

I managed to snap a 1.31" 30sp D44 axle shaft just as the trailer was getting to be fun.

Too much skinny pedal.

"You want a strap?" "Nah, not yet.."

Michelle then said, "You're going to break something.." (Why does she have to jinx me like that?)

BANG. "OK, how about that strap?"

OTOH, *SHE* drove great right up until the snow started getting deep.. then she turned the wheel over to me, so I could break it.

Of course, on the way back in FWD, I wasn't all that kind to it, either.. "You want to break the FRONT END, now, TOO?" :D

No no, it survived.. drove it onto the trailer in FWD.. and backed it off when I got home and parked it alongside the garage.. no time to get to fixing it yet, it's race season. :D

No pics yet.. but I'll post some ASAP when I have time to pull the broken chunks out..

Time to find a 35sp D60 Detroit and borrow some reamers for the 4.56 rear end behind the shop.. (on the plus side, that means the D44s can go under Michelle's 800 finally..)

Spool it, don't notice it all except under 5mph.

Do they have ice on the road in California? :flipoff2:

Still.. might not be a bad idea.. Everyone was after me to TRY a spool a while back.. that much faster to a ready to go rear end..

Didn't get a whole lot accomplished this weekend. Got the rear disks brackets prepped for the welding that's coming up soon. And did a little more reinforcing to the floors.

Plus it was Dad's day, so Dad wanted some

Hows the caddy swap comin' I posted all that info for you and we've never heard back?!?

Me? I didn't do anything with my rig this weekend, had a
funeral :( to attend, and then my daughters FIRST B-DAY :) and then fathers day, in which I got to sit around an relax all day.

I do have plans for the weekend of the 29/30th to fix my front springs and steering, and mount my shocks. AND if OLD SCOUT can get me that intake I'll stab that in also. That should get me running good, then I just need to install my tail lights, screw my front blinker housing in, get it registered and be on my way. FINALLY......sounds easy enough right:confused:

Let see... stripped down the front axle, pulled the shafts, dropped the front end, yanked the springs off, torched off the spring pivots, shackle mounts, shock mounts and bump stops, and ground the frame smooth. Also fabbed up the new spring pivots and shackle mounts for the reverse shackle and ground down the housing on the passenger side to prep it for the new SOA spring perch.

Thought I had explained that one:rolleyes: That project is on the back burner...The wife got pregnant, thus threating truck funds, so I built my trail rig and put the caddy on the back burner.

I put in my "new" gas tank with a VDO sending unit. I ran some Braided stainless line to the Holley electric pump , then made a hard line to the Baja style fuel filter. Then ran a new 3/8 hard fuel line to the engine compartment. It ends at a Holley fuel pressure regularator them back to SS Braided line to the Q-jet.

Well, Rockslut got hitched and I had to be there for his funeral:p

OTOH, I got to drink a lot of

I continued the  tradition yesterday with my future father-in-law.

Translation: What Scout? I have a Scout?

Got volunteered to help some of the step sons friends move, only because I've got a 34 ft. flatbed. It actually worked out great I will be trading a np435 short shaft and a little shop time for a Scout II with a bad tranny and no steering wheel. I did get a double flareing tool for dad's day so now I can do my hard lines the way that I want them.

Cool, Harley!

Must be a 727 if it's bad, huh? :D Easy enough to rebuild..

Not sure if I have a steering wheel lying around, but I'll take a look.

A few pics from last weekend..

Just pulled into camp:

This is the first time Tigger's been on a trailer..

My friend Rich just put this SR2 together in time to go play.

Rear seats are a pair of buckets bolted to the floor, with a baby seat bolted to the floor between the front buckets. 304, auto. Fresh rattle can. :D

Start of the Leadville run..

Michelle's driving through this (one of the smaller) water crossings (no pics of the bigger crossing - how was I supposed to get across to take the pics?)

No, the 345 never gets warm..

I think this is the spot where I broke the rear axle shaft.. it's uphill, and the pass rear is hung up on a log on the side of the trail.

Tyler found a little snow..

That night, after dinner, we bummed a ride in my friend's FS Bronco ('79 Bronco, 460, 4.56, 36" Buckshots) to the top of "Blizzard" to watch the sunset.. you can see both Anaconda and Butte, MT from here..

(it gets a bit cold and windy up there after the sun's gone)

and the SR2 during Fun n' Games on Sunday..

Left town at 5pm. Drove straight through to Great Falls. Arrived at 4:30 am. Slept 2 hours. Attended a wedding, and reception for folks I did not know (wife's cousin), visited with people I didn't know. Slept 6 hours. Visited with Wife's granparents, visited gravesite of wifes aunt, hit the highway at 2pm, pulled back into lynnwood at 11pm. Yawn.

Scraped the bottom of the engine block of RS. Had an oil pan leak I got tired of, so I pulled the pan. Used a little too much RS when I did the engine rebuild, and fought the stupid pan for an hour to get it off. Then had to scrape RS off everything. Going for RS on pan, then gasket, no RS on block this time.

T-case oil looked like a vanilla milkshake. Cleaned it up. Put the trannny back together. Funny thing, my tranny oil pump was shot. Sloppy shot. Go figure. But, it is back together. I'll slap it back in and get it pressure tested this week. Slap the oil pan back on. Knock a couple spring clamps off. Find my other two extended shackles and slap all four on. Check diff fluid for water, drain and replace if needed. Also want to slap on a front diff cover guard, while I am at it.

Gotta mow the grass, too.

Tom don't worry about finding a steering wheel. The column that is in there looks to be a gm. The column is connected to the shaft by a piece of pipe with holes drilled through it. not the best plan by far

Finally got the rear springplates done on my rear 60. I chose to make them out of some heavyass steel plate. Doin my reasearch on the extended brake lines which reminds me, Tsm1MT your site has some good info for the brakelines but alot of part# dont list for the front application, any updates for extended length lines???
Ive settled on the 22in long rear line for $19. Hopefully itll work as I am tired of running into deadends. The 4x4 shop & Discount Tire both insist a 15in wheel wont work on a D60:rolleyes: . Im like $400 in the red on this project DAMMIT!! I still need to buy brakelines, wheels, DOM tubing, TRE's, hysteer Arm & front calipers(have cores), oh yeah & front hub bearings too. The wheels are the hard part as Ill have to have ALL that $$$$ at once. I dont think Ill make RMIHR this time around:shaking:

Well.. there's not much out there for front lines!!

Mike Goodman and Hooper used 38510 or Wagner F113154 - 10" extensions for the stock front lines.

Says so right at the bottom of that page. :-)

Here's my last-night update. :D

Sorta BB-ish..

Old rusty backside of door panels after Marine Clean and Metal Ready..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/6_18_2002/pic05.jpg

and after the POR-15 is tacky..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/6_18_2002/pic09.jpg

Got the insides of the doors, too..

Repaired my bent "drive-over-fender" ramps.. er.. repaired ONE so far.. the .75x.75x.120 angle just didn't hold up to the weight when just welded on one end to the 2x2x.120 box tubing (I figured as much).. so I welded 2x2x.120 angle to the other edge and two 2x2x.088 stand-offs that'll sit on the trailer deck..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/6_18_2002/pic13.jpg

used my fancy new bandsaw. :D

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/6_18_2002/pic16.jpg

And while I had the camera out.. took a pic of the "desk/computer/stereo/phone" area..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/6_18_2002/pic17.jpg

See the quickcam on top of the stereo? :D

Got the crank to come out 1/2" on the IC392 block, too.

Just one more rod to unbolt (can't get to one of the bolts) and the crank should come out. I need to find my brass drift so I can apply some "motivation" to get the pistons out..
