Anybody know how to get gas mileage increases out of a cummins 24 valve?

This is what I recently purchased (love it!!!!)

I got a 4.10's with 265 tires 4x4, HO, etc... So I guess I have almost the worst one on mileage. I am still getting 14 city/ 17.5 hwy miles which is better than my V6 Tacoma with 32's!!!

Anyway, just wondering if I can get any gains in milleage, plenty of power for me.:D

By the way, Im not talking about shifting easier or getting new gears. I mean like add on type stuff:D

Muchos Gracias!

Put some 255-85-16 BFG MTs, some 275 injectors, and an EZ box on and you should see some improvement. 4.10s aren't really mileage friendly.

Is it new? I hear that mileage continues to increase from new to about 10-15k then levels off.

turbodieselregister.com is one of the largest diesel sites around. lots of info, but you need to pay to post.

It should increase as the motor breaks in (say the first 10k). I've heard the injectors help, but don't have any personal experiece. I'd also do the bigger tires; I run 255/85R16 ATs (~33"), a 285/75 is the same height also.

like stated earlier--the ez box and a set of injectors has given many guys increased fuel mileage---I would recommend guages--EGT and Fuel Pressure as a minimum before you sart adding stuff also when you start adding things your clutch may live a shorter life as with the injectors and the EDGE EZ box you've got a lot more power--which tends to decrease mileage until you get used to driving it and keeping your foot out of it-which is hard to do, because it's fun to whoop on rice rockets and the like---

www.performancediesel.net you can talk to him and order whatever you want--you won't believe the power you can get---I would also suggest the EDGE COMP box vs the EDGE EZ--the COMP box does a lot more and is adjustable plus it was about the same price as an EZ box---it can be used as an EZ if you don't tap the VP44 pump wire, but if you want to be able to put the wood to some muscle cars hook that wire up and hang on--remember the guages they are very important----chris

What CSutton said.... I've never got good gas mileage on my Cummins.... only good fuel mileage...

If you're going to BOMB (better off modified baby) get gauges....
Don't want to be melting pistons..

I know on my 12 valve the k@n filter helped out a lot, I'm pushing 950K a tank right now as opposed to 800 before, the stock one didn't look dirty and I went to semi-synthetic oil at the same time so it may be a combination gain, plus I probably wasn't being nice to it the first few tanks as I was having new toy syndrom. it did cure the annoying black smoke problem too.
