My girlfriend just bought a 94' wrangler, she is going to run the stock axles and wants me to do a springover on it. What is the correct pinion angles front and rear for the springover. Thanks!

I find it works best to point the rear pinion almost straight at the output shaft of the T case. You should however construct an anti wrap bar to keep it from wrapping up.
The front you can angle up a few degrees to ease the angle at the pinion, and to get the pinion a little higher off the ground, but dont sacrifice your castor/camber built into the stock axle for less drive shaft angle.

you can't say "point the rear toward the d-shaft". on a 94 yj, you would only do this if an SYE has been installed

this is only the case if both driveshafts are CV style.

if BOTH the front and rear driveshafts have a CV joint on the output side of the t-case, then yes, the REAR pinion should be in-line with the REAR driveshaft....

on the front, there is a comprimise to be made....the more you point your front pinion at the d-shaft, the less caster you will have...actually, if you did that, you'd end up with -4 to -9 caster (something like that) which would be a disaster........

if you don't know these principals, you probably shouldn't attempt an soa on your own. If you've hired a pro to do it, you wouldn't need to know this anyway. If he asked for this info, you've hired the wrong guy.

I have an expansion of ROBOTOY's question. I have a 92 YJ and just installed a SYE and belly-up skidplate. I had to lower the belly-up 5/8 of an inch due to some required frame repairs. I am going to install the motor mount spacers that came with the kit but I was wondering if I could get away with not rewelding the perches right away. I am planning on doing a 4 in. susp lift in the spring and will only be on the road till then. Will running the pinion angle wrong wear out U-joints? Will it cause nasty vibes? Should I just suck it up and weld them twice?

You can not do an effective SOA without an SYE. With an SYE, I would still point the rear pinion at the output with or without a CV, I have ran both,(I am currently not running a CV joint, and I still find its the best angle). Getting propper lubrication to the pinion bearings can be an issue if you are going too steep, however.
I also mentioned the same points with the front pinion.

Yes it can wear out the Joints quicker, and can cause quite a bit of vibration. You could use shims on your leaf packs though, untill you do your final welding of the perches.

H8Monday - I just did an SOA. My D44 is pointed straight in line with the driveshaft - I think it's about 26 degrees. How steep is too steep for lubrication on the pinion gear?

I Have a 94 it is soa on stock axles with 23 degree's on the rear pinion and i thinnk i am pushing too much. I have been running it for a few months with no prob. so far.the rear shaft is cv.
