I am thinking of getting a smaller die (I have a JD2 with a 1.75" die) for making a cargo rack for the mother-n-law's jeep so she can haul camping gear.
I am thinking of getting a 1" die but don't know if 1" is strong enough to build stuff like this???
Thanks

A 1" die is great for racks, seat mounts, and grab bars ect.
I'm looking into a 1/2" die for some stuff.

3/4" is better on the side for hooking Bungie cords to. Seems that often 1" dia is too large for the hooks provided.
Also Conduit (EMT) is a good way to get cheep tubing for light weight stuff. But then again you can get the Rigid brand manual benders at places like Home Depot really cheep for this type of tube.
Just remember to grind or acid wash off the Galvanizing in the area of the weld.

QFT. Learned that the hard way.
I made a steel rack out of a ton of extra EMT from our shop build. It works pretty good for the light stuff and will save the $200 on the die.
