Damn winch controller tells me my winch is overheating while it's not being used. Leave the controller plugged in for 15-20 min and the controller gets hot. It's a Warn 9.5ti.

Anyone else had something like this?

edit: I emailed Warn bout it, was told to send it to repair facility.....don't especially want to...

To be honest the way you asked made you kinda hard to help. You didn't say where you were, what model winch you had, if you've been in the mud or not or give anything else to go on.

Folks here aren't clairvoyant. If some ignorant jackass did respond to your question the way it was asked and that's not at all unusual on the Internet, it would probably be just so much bullshit and likely lead you astray making matters all that much worse.

Do you know your way around a DMM? How are you with electrical stuff in general?
Is it in warranty? If so, I suggest you take that route.

Clairvoyancism:confused:

I said it was a 9.5ti...and since I don't know what a DMM is...i think its enough to say, fuck no. Electrical stuff, if you look into my other thread that I posted I can't make my way around wiring my tail lights.

Gotta check into the warranty, papers are at home, but its been a few years.

Just thought if someone else had the same issue and would be able to shed some light...i ain't that dumb, just need some pictures...

gonna take it apart this weekend, won't know what i'm doing but hey...

oh, and it seemed to have started happening after coming back from a 4 day trip on a lot of really really long and dusty trail-heads.

call warn up, explain your problem, work from there, they should help you out, if not, give it to me!
