I pulled the dana 35 out of my Xj that I welded up about a month and a half ago.
Upon inspection I noticed that some of the welds had cracked.
Good thing I pulled it this weekend to put in the axle with 4.10 gears.
I wonder how much longer the welded diff would have lasted.
I wonder when it started to break.
and you didnt take pics? sheesh:beer:

I didn't think the small cracks in the weld would show up.
I suppose I can use the Macro feature :flipoff2:

Probably cracked right after you welded it.
upon cooling. happens all the time if you don't pre heat and post heat. not saying you didn't do that...but either way it can still happen
I bet it would be fine because the welds just push back and forth on eack other and don't go anywhere. :D

Nope didn't crackright away.
Probably cracked when Sara was driving it around at Hollister.
and from the looks of it it would have held for a while like you mentioned.
It just turned into a VERY limited slip diff:flipoff2:

How long did it last Monkeyboy?
Im thinking of welding up my 35 before I have the money saved up to put in a d44, or similar axle.

Somebody? I seem to remeber this story about a boulder strewn creek that "someone" pounded their way through with that poor XJ. LOL

Yep Travis, Dry creek bed I was on her dirt bike and she was in my XJ transporting the beer ( It's always nice to have a beer support vehicle.)
I couldn't believe she kept up with us the whole time.
She was jumping up and down embankments. Hitting rocks all over the place and our friend that was riding with her said Sara was swinging the ass end of the XJ around corners like she was a ralley racer.
Then Joe saw how she drives in 4 low:eek:

I welded it up about a month ago.
Made one trip to Hollister and one trip up to Boards crossing.
I also drove it to work everyday.

I ran my welded dana 35 for almost a year before I swapped it out for a 9" I touched up the welds twice because it started clunking around corners. I drove my YJ 500 miles on the freeway every weekend during that timeframe, with stock 4.11:1's, a 2.5L, and 33's, plus my housing was welded too, I broke the factory welds on the tube and kept wheel hopping on just one side, plus I was losing a quart of gear lube a week. Them Dana 35's are junk, but they take a beatin'
