http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/top_search.gif Isn't gonna help with this one. I have an intermediate housing(?) - bolts between the tranny and Tcase - that I have no idea what it's for. I'm hoping someone, in their infinite wisdom, can help me out. This is basically what it looks like(bear with me, I spent 20 minutes on autocad to draw this up real quick)

http://davids78bronco.netfirms.com/Tcase IDhelp.jpg

I don't know which side is the front. On the left diagram, there's a spring-loaded actuating arm(??) that appears to have a tab that potrudes to the inside. This tab looks like it holds something in place, as in to keep it from moving. I'm not entirely sure. Also, on the left picture, there's a 'relief' at the bottom, slightly to the left, that I had forgotten to include. This relief is about 2" deep. Oh yeah, and at that 'actuating arm', there's a tapered piece to the right of that(all still inside the dome-like shape I've drawn under the pentagon), that's held in with a funny looking snap-ring

Anyone have any idea wtf I've got here?? Also, there are no splines in this whatsoever. I was asked(before I made the right changes) if this might be a housing for an over/under drive. I thought it might be too ,because of the arm with the spring on it, but I really have no idea

TIA,
David

BTW - thanks for the posting tip, BV :)

This looks a lot like my warn over drive. What transfer case do you have. The warn overdrives are usaly found on Dana 18 transfercases

^%#%^ dangit, if I could answer any questions you guys asked me, I definitely would. But unfortunately, I know nothing about this. For some dumass reason, I paid 10 bucks at a garage sale for this a few years ago, thinking it might be of some good

But since this is already the second time I've heard it being said it looks like it was in front of an OD unit, I'm already believing this might be the case.

But as I said, I bought this as is. The lady tending to the sale knew nothing about it, and her husband was running an errand at the time. Those numbers in my drawing are all that I could find anywhere on the part, but I'm clueless for providing any other info that might help you guys give me an answer.

Thanks for the help tho, Please feel free to give any other ideas as to what you think this is, or where I could find info to help me get an answer(I'm searching online now, for older OD units and part #'s)

Looks to me like a transfer case adapter for an automatic tranny. Not sure which tranny though. Does it have any markings on it? how long is it?

Looks to be a Heep auto tail-housing, maybe from a 727. I just pulled a Heep 727 for the tailhousing. Sounds like it is missing the output shaft, which requires tearing down the tranny. The swing out arm is the parking break paw (SP) that engages the governor.

I'll see if I can post a pic tonight.

You have the right tranny but it is to hook the 727 to a NP208 I have 2 of them in the garage right now..The only difference between yours and mine is that mine has the number 3836016... If you look right next to the web on the bottom side of those numbers you will see the year it was cast..will look like this sort of
this one was cast in 85 for use on an 86

Are all the Heep Grand Waggy's 23 spine, 6 hole circular pattern?

Hy_desert, you're right on, I completely missed that part about that two digit number below that. Mine appears to show an 81. If this is the case, is that actuating arm a parking brake pawl, that jdjanda suggested?

Hey, thanks guys, I really appreciate this

Edit - can you give me the years and models of Jeep to look at, so I can try to compare? Unless you're absolutely sure, then I'll take your word for it

Edit again(no reason to pad my posts) - This probably isn't compatible with a housing from a Dodge pickup 727, is it?? Just checking my options

small block 727 to np(something). Just pulled one off this weekend and that is exactly what it looked like and what you described. This should be the same heep tailhousing on all autos that goes to a np type transfer case. No clue on the number thing though.

Yes it should work on any 727. You're missing the output shaft. The Dodge and Heep use a different lenght adapter, so you have to have the Heep output.

I am swapping the Heep tail and shaft onto an IH 727, plus a full rebuild. Including, deep ban (buy the Mopar Perfomance Pan), remote filter, and cooler. Don't forget a temp guage.

An output shaft? Is this something that fits on the lip of center hole? Since I don't have that, it appears as tho I have a good spare....for someone.

Welp, I spose I should go start a post to offer this for sale then. I needed to know wtf I had before I put it up for sale. And thanks to you guys being so damn quick, I'm just that much smarter(still learning about Dodges on a weekly basis)

Thanks again guys, this is great

The output shaft he is talking about is the tranny tailshaft.. That chenter hole you are referring to is for the support bearing..I do not know how long the waggy adapter is but the Dodge one is 11 1/4 inches long..the one you have was cast in 81 and probably used on a 82 year model..It will work on both small and bigblock 727's as well as the Jeep and IH 727's.. The only Difference between the 727's is the bellhousings and MAYBE the tailshafts..Dodges use a 23 spline tailshaft on all their trannies (that I have dealt with)..that adapter can be used with all the NP T-cases that use the round pattern as well at the D300..

I do not know the answer to your ? jdjanda..

Anytime, you're welcome!

You may be hearing from a buddy of mine in Nova Scotia..he has a CJ with a 304? and 727 and I think he'd love to add an OD

Excellent. And to think I was thinking about melting this down, or turning it in for recycling....ha! This is a far better way to recycle it, is if someone else can use it

But uh, Do you have any idea what a part like this is worth?? I don't.

David,

Kinda hard to answer as:

1) I have no idea
2) potential buyer is a good friend of mine

But, If you double your investment, maybe even triple it, everyone probably wins!
