ok so my girls mom has this POS 96 corsica that she owes almost twice the value on, and she moved to holland leavin my girl with the car, and the loan payment. my girl has been payin the payments, but cant really afford it, and she doesn't like the car. Some friends and I have been talkin and we are thinkin of puttin together some $$$ and gettin her a car for her birthday and takin moms POS to the dealer and lettin em repo it (moms credit is already fawked and she doesn't seem to care).

I wanna try and find her a sammi to play with, and to get her outta the passenger seat and wheelin. It needs to be reliable, cause she knows nothing about cars, and i dont wanna have to pick her up off the side of the road all the time. the paint doesn't matter cause if we get her a car its gettin painted her favorite color before we give it to her. the body should be fairly straight, but minor stuff is ok. Main thing is reliable, and CHEAP. Most of our friends are poor which means the most we'll be able to put together is probably about $1200. Any of you guys know where to look to find such a truck, or have tips on what to look for. thanks a lot.

start lookin, theyre out there. sammi's are relatively easy to fix mechanically so I wouldnt be to worried about minor stuff. just fix it before she gets rid of the car.

I honestley wouldnt put my g-freind in a sami for a daily driver... I put myslef in one but know the risk.. If you get smacked by a car or full size truck in one of these things your gonna lose ,theres no question bout it. Dparker just lost one of his best friends last week in a sidekick. It ripped the poor guys arm clean off and he died in the hospital

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you really "love" her, find a safer alternative. Best of luck.

Yo StinkBug, JimShrake.

So the Sami forum tells people not to drive Samis cause they are too dangerous??? What are we consumer reports? It's not any worse than a small car, probably better with the ladder frame. Anyway, you are a smart enough guy to realize they are small and choose for yourself.

As for finding them, here are some good ones:

Many city classifieds use this:

if you want to use carfax in the next 30 days email me. I coughed up the 20 bills because I found a 92 blazer with only 40,000 miles on it  for my girlfriend. pretty crazy but its true. anyway let me know if you want to use it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I had been lookin to get her into a sammi because of the cost, and ease of building a rig. The safety issue has come up, and her brother and I were discussing it last night. If shes actually gonna wheel it neither of us have problems with a sammi, but we are lookin at other vehicles as well. I'd really love to put her in an older amigo like mine, stock they drive great, have quite a bit of space and comfort, and wheel fairly well. Not to mention i could rebuild one in my sleep. only problem is they are quite a bit more expensive. We will see tho. Thanks for the help guys.

I got my '87 Rust Free in NH (yes, land of salt and rust) for 1300 with a softop, bikini and tonneau cover. Just needed some new tires and it was all set. As for the safety factor, she just needs to use her head, as a sammy is pretty solid (I got smacked by a honda in one, and all I got was a dent), especially if you put a cage in there for her. Good luck.

oh come awn............
everything is relative. if he REALLY loved her, he would make her stay at home in a padded room, with a helmet and foam rubber duct taped to her body.
oh, wait! there maybe an earthquake or fire or a flood or oh my gawd she's aging as we speak! she's ACTUALLY DYING AS I TYPE!!!!!  save her!!!! how hideous!

So get her an 85 Yota, then. The Sammys bigger, fatter (safer?) brother. :D

Plus, no need to to an SOA to fit tires & get flex. It's already there. ;)

no way the only way that she will be safe is in an excursion getting 6 miles to the gallon just like all the soccer moms

Dallas,

I forgot to mention we saw you driving your amigo on Beach blvd a week or so ago.. I guess you were heading over to Rusty's house?

What he forgot to tell you guys is that he plans to paint the thing pink! I don't think anyone should sell to him. :flipoff2:

Safety - My buddy was recently rearended on the freeway by a Dodge Ram full size. The Samurai was at a full stop when he go hit from behind. The Samurai drove home just fine, and the Dodge was towed away. Damage to the Samurai was a bent bumper (swing away) and bent tail gate. The Samurai is full trail with cage, nerfs, bumpers, 3 link rear.... I have heard other stories that are similar. But stock, they are a little scarry.. As long as you are not trapped between a bus and a truck, you will probably be OK as they are rather light and get pushed out of the way. The shock to the drivers is pretty bad though.. No crumple zones.

personally i wouldn't let a g/f drive my sammy unless she was a really good driver. women tend to not pay as much attention to the road, and sammies are kinda tricky to drive if yer use to driving a car.

also, who is gonna fix her rig when it breaks on the trail, oh ya that would be you, keep her in the passager seat, its safer, cheaper and takes alot less time.
