I'm looking for a decent hand held CB for use when hunting so we can communicate after shots are fired or when chasing hogs at night.
Anyone have any experience? I've found a few for $40.

And which would be better? CB or FRS/GMRS

I'd probably go with the FRS. I think (haven't priced it out lately), but you could probably get two radios for the price of one CB. A bunch of the :rainbow: FJ Cruisers in our club use FRS because "they don't have room to mount a CB" and "don't want to cut up their dash"
CB would only be necessary over longer distances. >1 mile or so

In reading about the FRS/GMRS on Wikipedia, it says that they don't go nearly as far as advertised unless you are talking hilltop to hilltop. A set of FRS/GMRS costs $80 plus shipping and a CB is $35 plus shipping. I have a CB in my truck which could be used for the base since there are typically people at camp.
FRS/GMRS is supposed to be a little clearer in it's range.
Anyone have real world experience with either or both?

The item in question does not require ammunition. Please move this topic to another forum. :flipoff2:
Hand-held CBs suck. They're big and heavy, and eat battereies like mad if unplugged.
We use FRS radios a lot when we're on a trail-ride in a tight group. But when you need to raise someone all the way across a park, the CB is king. I have both, and wouldn't want to give one up for the other, personally... But it sounds like you guys need a CB more than FRS stuff. Hunters spread out a lot more than a line of 8 rigs running the same trail back-to-back.
Just make sure to pick a channel, and stick with it. When guys start skipping to 'alternate' channels, someone gets lost every time. And it's always the guy with something important to say.

I bought two hand held CBs for $78 total. I will report back on my experience with them. We're hunting on 250 acres so we should easily be able to communicate from opposite ends.
Can a mod change the title of the thread to say Hand Held just in case anyone searches?
Thanks.

Did you get one of the ones in your first thread? 2 shipped? That seems like a good price. I have a Cb in the truck but never thought about a handheld.
