: Tj Lift Rubicon
b_erickson_00 09-25-2007, 12:17 PM My dad just got a 05 Rubicon TJ to leave at our summer home in MT. He doesnt want to do anything to crazy to it. We got some bumpers f/r and it has a cheap 3-4? inch lift on it he got some 35 toyo open country MTs and now they rub... I havent seen i but he said they hit the stabilizer bar. He wanted to put a decent 4 inch on it but i cant seem to find a good 4 inch reasonably priced that will hold 35s....
I tried a search but there is soooo much info out there that im confused... and vendors out there want to set me up with an entire kit for a good price that is still streetable for a 05 rubicon...
requirments
not too hard to install
35s fit with no rubbing
fairly streetable
ENTIRE KIT
let me know!
thanks!
BRAD
Most likely the tires are rubbing the lower contol arms. You will need a maximum of 4" backspacing on your wheels (including wheel spacers) to keep from scrubbing. The full Currie Johnny Joint kit is my choice for hardcore wheelin, but the Rubicon Express Superflex kit is my next choice if you want something a little cheaper. here is a link to Red Rock 4x4 showing the JJ and RE kit on this page: http://www.redrock4x4.com/shop/categories/65_414_417.html
BJohnson 09-26-2007, 07:52 AM As already said backspacing on the wheels is the problem get a new set of wheels or a set of spacers. Now to the lift if you have a 4" lift a different brand 4" lift isn't going to help with the rubbing . So I quess my question would be what are you looking for in a lift kit looks, ride, price or easy to install?
Little Jeep 09-26-2007, 09:10 AM 3x on backspacing on wheels!!
What is wrong with current lift? Why the need to replace it?
Have you considered adding a 1 inch body lift to provide a little extra "stuff room"? Depending upon where tires are rubbing, backspacing change may be only change that is really required.:confused:
b_erickson_00 09-26-2007, 11:10 AM Hey thanks for the quick responses,
The lift on the jeep is a 2-3 inch lift. My dad said he wants to keep the stock wheels if possible. (this jeep will get less then 1000 miles a year on it) He doesnt mind putting wheel spacers on it though.
So I need a 4-6 inch lift that will fit 35s on stocks wheels if possible...
It wont spend much time on the road besides the initial drive from MN to MT other then that all it will be going on is short road trips under 55 mph. Let me know what you guys think a good kit... This is the first jeep ive worked with, i normally am a samurai guy.

pilothillcrawler 09-26-2007, 11:43 AM I got the Rubicon Express Extreme Duty Long Arm 5.5 lift on my rubicon. It flexes great, require welding to install. Great complete kit though, good protection and is tough to.
x4 of course on the backspacing of the wheels. I got 4" back spacing on my 37's and just barely rub the lower control arms.
A Slip Yoke Eliminator and new rear driveline are usually recomended for a 5" lift, at least thats what people told me when I did mine.
Little Jeep 09-26-2007, 12:24 PM When I installed the Rubicon Express 3.5 Super Flex lift on my TJ, I netted 4.25 inches of actual lift because RE understates the amount of lift. Add a 1 inch BL and your will have more than enough room for 35's to stuff. A lot of people will order the 4.5 inch kit and request the 3.5 springs as it has a softer ride. No welding required to install, just time & hand tools. (Note, Smear anti seize all over shanks of control arm bolts before installing them ... don't ask me how I know this ). Since you have a Rubicon you will not have to worry about a SYE. However, I **think** there will be a point where a longer CV driveshaft will be required.
Appalachian Offroad 09-26-2007, 06:00 PM Do the tires contact the fenders anywhere? If not just get 1.25 " wheel spacers .
b_erickson_00 09-27-2007, 10:59 PM the tires hit the fenders just a bit... I am going to be putting a 4-5 inch lift on it and then the wheel spacers and even though im using the stock wheels this still should work right?
4-5 inch lift and 35s on stock wheels and 1.25 spacers or maybe 1.5
pilothillcrawler 09-27-2007, 11:37 PM sounds good. post a good pick after is is done.

1 inch body lift for $100.00 approximately and call it a day :) Body lifts are super easy to install and you can do it in a couple/three hours. You will still need the wheel spacers. BTW, for what you will spend for spacers, you could buy wheels with correct back spacing.
b_erickson_00 09-29-2007, 11:29 AM That is what i told my dad but he doesnt want to buy steel wheels... You guys know of some 16 inch alloys? for cheap
BRAD
pilothillcrawler 10-01-2007, 12:39 PM Oh man I understand what you are saying, working with dad's ideas and your own ideas can be VERY frustrating.
b_erickson_00 10-01-2007, 03:11 PM Well it doesnt pay to put nice wheels on a car that isnt going to be driven very much... We are going to be going witha 4 inch and spacers...(especially since the wheels are already mounted and balanced.
Should i do spacers front and rear? Or just front? Or does it not really matter?

b_erickson_00 10-05-2007, 10:51 AM ok i have it down to three lifts...

Only on the street and not turning very tight with that back spacing...
b_erickson_00 10-08-2007, 11:34 AM what?? I thought I would be good if i run wheel spacers? Or wont that be enough?
BRAD

ChrisTX 10-08-2007, 01:22 PM Is this for you or your dad?
Add a 2" body and wheel spacers.
