Im looking for options for donor vehicles or a supplier to replace the upper portion of the steering shaft in my 79 cj5.

Right now the POS non-original column is out and a complete column from a 78 chevy truck is in. It is slightly longer at the bottom end (~4")so I pulled the steering shaft out to shorten it. Anyhow the outer (upper) portion of the collapsable shaft with the u-joint needs to be replaced. The u-joint is toast and the splines are just about gone but the lower part with the cv joint is in fine shape. Needless to say there arent many cjs in scrap yards in SE Michigan so I guess I need another solution.

I looked on the flaming river site and the stuff is very pretty which means $$$ :barf: :barf: :barf:

Are there any other options or another vehicle that I can get a 1"/48spline u-joint attached to the outer of the slip section at ~ 3-5" shorter than stock??

Thanks
JC

Well anyhow, I found a steering shaft with a good u-joint in an old j10 in a scrapyard but the lower section had a rag joint. Got it for $20 and convinced it to seperate with a hammer. I reconditioned the upper (spray paint) and assembled it with my old lower and now the jeep will stay between the lines :smokin:
