Hi
The GM manual suggests that one uses a special tool to install a crank pulley onto an LS1. Unfortunately I do not have such a tool and as I am based in South Africa, obtaining one is not that easy. Hence the question:
How do I go about intalling a crank pulley on a LS1 without the special tool?
Any advise/suggestions appreciated

The ultimate goal is to pull the pulley onto the front of the crank without having to use a hammer. So, ideally a long stud that has the correct thread size and a nut with a washer. Thread stud into nose of crank, put balancer on, washer then nut and start drawing on the pulley by turning the nut.
Don't use a bolt, you could damage the threads in lthe front of the crank

Just buy a metric bolt with washer and pull it down then install the correct bolt torque to specs.

GM's LS1 install guide says: Tighten new bolt to 110 ft. lbs., then back off the bolt one turn. Retighten the bolt to 35 ft. lbs., and then turn the bolt an additional 140*. So I would torque it, mark it, figure out where 140* more is, mark that, and tighten to there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. With that information I am sure that I should be able to make the necessary tool to do the job.
