Just a pic of my Loooong one. Anyone else running this setup? Wondering where to get some small air bags to air up when I have the toy loaded on it.

I would have liked to compete, but I heard it was all filled up, However I'd like to come watch ya guys. When is it and is it in Vantage again? Also, any ideas or concerns on my hauler? Not a dually is that too much weight for the 14? Thankfully it has the 454 so it is pretty heavy still up front. Any advice is welcome.

It looks like you need a dully axle, springs, and wheels and tires. then move the axle to the back of the frame and extend the drive shaft. Or put a standard cab on that frame. But the crew cab is cool. So move the axle back.

Add a tag axle to that thing -- should be easy enough, and you could get an axle from the junkyard for next to nuthin... You'd get an extra set of brakes out of it (if you even wanted to hook them up -- I suppose you'd want to proportion-adjust it all, that would be the hardest part, probably) and a boatload more carrying capacity... a bit further back, too. Check your local laws, though, in CA you'd need a commercial driver's license for more than two axles.
Either that or put a wedge on the back of the truck (that's what I'd like to do). Stretch a pad over the top of the cab for the rear wheels (presumably the lighter end of the rig), and run a ramp down to the deck for the front wheels. You'd still want dual wheels, probably, but dually 14-bolts are cheap and easy...

...maybe a trailer is easier.... but it would be less creative. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Well, needless to say they were less than pleased over on the toyota board as well. You know you screwed up somewhere when people start telling you that they are gunna move off the highways if they see ya comin'. Putting a wedge on it would just raise the CofG and I don't want to do that. U are right Randy I do need some new wheels and tires but I'm not sure that will help in the hauling problem. I have yet to take it out on the freeway but I know just driving it on a relatively straight road it does fine. Somehow I need to get a stiffer suspension to cut down on the sag and body sway around corners. I could let the air out of my big tires and just let it go at that, that would lower my CofG and probably cut back on the body sway to some extent. I'm kinda interested in adding the extra axle to the extension but haven't seen it done and don't know how it would drive. Would like to find out more about from someone. Needless to say I'm keeping my eyes open for a trailer.

I'm less worried about your COG and more worried about the load lifting weight from the front end... makes it hard to steer. Even a foot longer wheelbase would help get more of the wight between the wheels...

I still like the wedge hauler idea... been turning it over in my head for years now. Here's a flattish hauler:

These are starting to be a wedge:

My favorite:

I've seen even steeper wedges used for dragsters, but was unable to find an example. At some point, top-heaviness becomes a problem, but I bet you could get the rig a few feet forward....

stick a dually boggie set up under it and it will drive like a dream you could go all out and airbag it but where the buck stop is up to you - there is a conversion you can get for wreckers where you run the single axle like you have up fornt and the dually behind look at www.towtimes.com (http://www.towtimes.com) plenty of mods for trucks there
